And here we got them again, straight from
the Eighties beamed into the new Century. And after a rather quiet time
in the ninties, Black Lawless and Co. are pretty active again. Just to
admit it: W.A.S.P. was and still is mainly Blacky Lawless and noone else.
Or better, everybody else can be replaced. And it is well known in the
Hardrock circles, that this Gentleman ain't the most easy going
character.
But as we say so... We all don't get younger, and things have also
changed a bit at our half indian, or should I rather say - things calmed
down. However... remember the chainsaw and the naked virgins to provide
the perfect horror metal picture show. But all these is clichees get a
bit boring over the years, and also trends are changing. I would say,
the only artist, who is still privileged to practice such a splattershow
is our beloved Alice Cooper...
But back to Blacky, who
visited Munich about 2 years ago for the last time, and still had his
boney ride-machine incl.a microphone with him. But that's past time as
well now and Mr.Lawless now goes for a simple average mike. And there is
no other strange or exeptional stage outfit up there.
No clue whether this is a new devotion to pursim or rather a
matter of beeing to comfortable to carry all the stage stuff around.. or
just have got sick and tired of the old splattershow. I presume, it's
the last one...
But before W.A.S.P. are playing their 2009 show, our Munich threesome
named 'Dead Means Nothing' (not the spanish band) are beating the hell
outta the stage plankets.

It's
like a steamhammer taking the place aprar. Jesus wept... even
Lemmy from Motörhead would melt down to vanilla castard, compared to
this... Or do these guys wanna rip off the southamerican rainforest. No
seriously, I don't often see a band up there so hard at work, like right
now, most of all, what's up to the drumkit. Poor little thing, which
gets castrated in it's pieces... by our all beloved Django. Hey hey,...
the Ironmal on Hawaii is waiting for you.....
These 3 guys stand for
hard rock ala' Motörhead, non compromising, breathless and sweaty...
Nothing new, I would say, and nothing sophisticated, but it's worth an
ear and of course good for a hard party... There's nothing more to say
about it...

By the way, for everybody, who still don't know
what the name W.A.S.P. stands for... there are too many versions around...
so Blacky Lawless a.k.a. Steven Duran answers this question nowadays
with: „We Ain't Sure, Pal“. And so this got a double meaning
doesn't it?!!!

And let's be honest, meanwhile nobody
bothers anymore... also not the 300 souls who have gathered here at the
Backstage Hall in Munich to hail W.A.S.P. Curiously when you watch these
kids here, you can make out, that they are real young fans. Fans who
probably never have experienced the first era of this band conciously. I
dare to bet, that we are only about 10 people here, or even it's just me,
who has seen W.A.S.P. in the classic line up feat. Blacky, Chris
Holmes, Steve Rily and Randy Piper, doing the
bloody splattershow back then. - Musically
not much has changed, whereby it's the old smashhits, who gets the crowd
dancing along and freakingout. I'm talking about 'Wild Child', 'I Wanna
Be Somebody', 'Love Machine', 'I Don't Need No Doctor' and 'Fuck Like A
Beast'..
Last mentioned song has never been
released on a normal studioalbum, but only on a compilation record. And
it's not on the setlist every time,- why? Yeah well, on the other hand,
we here in Germany are much mor liberal, compared to the states. Blacky
himself acts rather impersonal, and his stinging look out of this black
colourd eyes, sees everything down there in the audiance. Meanwhile 53
years of age, he actually doesn't seem to become much older over the
years. The hairstyle is still the same, maybe not quite as voluminous as
in the past. And the skin tight leggins don't hide much, do they...?!
The sound is heavy and full blown up, too full, too round, too perfect
for my taste. The guitar solo of Dough Blair seems so intense but doesn't
take any efforts. Mike Duda handles the bass since 1996 and Mike Dupke
sits behind the drumkit for 3 years now.

So what, Blacky is the only one left from
the original line up. No surprise though, as I said before, Mr. Lawless
is W.A.S.P. and then there is nothing for a long time. He's an
intellectual infant terrible, not accepting anybody close to hime, when
arriving at another venue and dressing room. But... he can also be a
real gentleman with perfect maniers. I can tell personally....
Anyway, getting back to the current
situation, one thing is for sure. W.A.S.P. are still present, though not
on a status like in the past. Blacky is still the wild child, though not
obviously anymore, but still going for the slogan: 'I Wanna Be Somebody'..
and that one goes still really well down on the fans.
Just one little thing to say about... Thanks to the absolute perfect
stage show and to the great sounds without any mistakes, maybe one or
two, including myself carefull listening people get some doubts, whether
this is just a perfect illusion. Well, there are some rumours ...
but I leave it by that... the party has been great, and most of the fans
are satisfied and didn't catch any strange things... yeah well, almost
no one...
