No kiddin'
but I havn't seen this band live on stage yet.But I've seen frontman
Keith Caputo solo yet. And that way simply phantastic. That's why I
don't hard with the decision to check him and his former - and now back
again band Life Of Agony out again. Above that, there is a photocall for
one magazine up in the air. So I catch two flies in one go. You could easily name Keith Caputo an excentric genius of this metal alternativ sound. He's 36 years of age, and this little, but great musician is always good for a surprise. Apart from that he seems to be a workaholic, because he's always working on several projects at the same time, at least it seems so. There is not much more I could possibly say about Life of Agony, who is going for 20 years now including a 4 year's break. But despite all those years, they released only about 4 albums, whereby the latest release ‚Broken Valley’ has come out 4 years ago. The question, why they are going on a tour right now without a new product, I can't tell you. There is no hint about any new plans on their official website. But one thing is for sure, this band ain't forgotten yet. And I presume, this is actually up to Keith Caputo, who seems to be on a constant solo tour here in Germany. However, the Backstage Hall is a little empty in the beginning, but don't worry, right at the start of Life of Agony's set it's more than just crowded. But before that, it is Hassliebe from Southern Germany, who have already worked out some reputation for themselves all over Germany. . And eventually I get them
live on stage to see, as I have missed them already twice in the nearer
past. The reason for that is, that Hassliebe always had the opener job,
starting off much earlier than I arrived. This time it's only two acts,
and the whole event starts at 8.30 p.m.- I'm
positively surprised, nevertheless the fact, that our Munich audiance
don't necessarelly appreciate the show of this supportact. Sad but true...
but well done boys.... After a 30 minutes break Keith Caputo and Co step up on stage without big fuss, and they start off with an attitude saying : they come, play and win, at least here at the Backstage Venue. And they let the heat freak out. At this very minute even the last long sleeper has woken up, and the hall develops into a ultimate battlefield. And as small as this intellectual frontman of this band is, so mighty is his stage presence. Like I mentioned before, I have seen him before within a solo stint. And that's why I draw of course automatically comparison. Well, at those events he hadn't been so hard and much mor sensitive. Now Caputo and this band here start a bombastic sound thunderstorm with an amost desperate scream. Caputo goes for it and gets lost within a symbiosis of pseudometallic cascades giving us the impression as if he's alone up there. Whereby the other musicians are truly worth an eye. And this guitarist Joey Z, Bassist Alan Robert and drummer Sal Abruscato. By the way, despite a little interruption with Whitfield Crean (Ex-Ugly Kid Joe) and drummer Dan Richardson, this line up is still the same like in 1989. But in the end it's Keith Caputo only spinning the line. One thing is for sure: Life Of Agony is not a normal Heavy Metal Band. The melodies are compley and the structure is abstract. But in the end it is exactly this, making this band so special. However, Keith is the hero tonight. He presents himself loose and close tot he audiance, only his german knowledge is still poor and is only going for a multiple - Danke Schön. But the fans still show a lot of devotion and enthusiasm. 85 minutes stage time is
enough, putting a towel round his head and says good bye and off we go.
They others are following him, but not before giving away tons of guitar
pics to the crowd. And no - "we want more" requests can bring
'em back. That's it, no more... Fortunately the audiance don't get upset.
So what...?
