If this band is something not... - then it is an exploding sing along partyband. No, - Starsailor from Great Britain rather go for a melodic britpop with a slight morbid touch. Although you can't describe their show boring, compared to both supportacts, who I rather miss out after hearing the first few notes playing. So I rather spend the time until the headliner hits the stage outside the main entrance chatting along with some people.
However... for everybody, who don't know Starsailer yet, - here is a brief biography. Founded in 1999 by singer James Walsh in Wigan, England, the foursome, who also includes James Stelfox (Bass), Ben Byrne (Drums) and Barry Westhead (Keyb.) can look back already on four releases so far. The latest CD 'all The Plans' has just been released. Reaching several chart positions in different countries and supporting mega bands like U2 and the Rolling Stones gave them a certain reputation yet. And now these boys are just about to stand on their own feet in the big wide world to establish their individuality.
Unfortunately the current Octoberfest here in Munich and 3 other events in this city take care, that there are no more than about 200 people in the audiance here at the Theaterfabrik. You can describe it as a comfi living room atmosphere. And this surely suits the sound of Starsailor.

Let's put it that way... the band stands and falls with their frontman James Walsh. The most spotlight is on him, while the rest of the band somehow vanishes in the shades. Somehow shame, as the other's are very good musicians as well. But thanks of taking almost 100% of the focus on Mr.Walsh, the rest gets a bit lost. Well, mind me, he's a good singer and en excellent leadguitarist. No surprise after having studied music for quite a few years.
The setlist shows a retrospective over their 10 years carriere with the focus on the new CD. Slow and soft songs dominate the show. But now an then it gets a bit more lively. I must admit, I do like this interesting version of the song 'For To The Floor'.

Now of course you've gotta like these mostly quiet tunes to get along with. But if you take a little efforte of concentrated listening, then you might find out, that you like this, - apart from those, who are fans anyway.
To be honest, I've been rather sceptic what's up to the music of Starsailor. But the longer I follow the show, the more I appreciate it. So I presume, you just need a little patience to find the right taste. And last but not least I didn't regret, that I've stayed 'till the very end now.
