It's about 18
months now, that the beautiful finnish artist has been here in Munich at
the Elsehalle, which doesn't exist anymore by the way. This was in may
2008, and the slogan was 'A Winter's Storm'. Well, this storm hasn't
vanished yet, as there has not been another new album released so far.
so the question is, why another tour without a new product? Well, let's
name the reason a brilliant offer and the constant request for Tarja -
live. But that one again has dropped down a little, to be honest. 18
months ago there were about 2.000 fans at the show. Tonight there are
only not even half the amount of people, who have gathered here to enjoy
this special mixture of Heavy Metal and a classical voice. Yes, okay,
this is a pure matter of taste, and not everybody can deal with those
hard guitar riffs and the coloratur singing. It's a fact, that the
shades of Nightwish are still around in some hyptethic way. Because the
song material of course comes from Tarja's solo works after she had left
the band.
But first of all it's finnish true metal band 'Kings of Modesty', who,
to be honest, I've never heard before yet.
Exusable is maybe the
fact, that this band has just signed a deal with english label Escape
Music. And the debutalbum came out on sept. 25. so they are pretty new on
the Heavy Metal Sky.
But first of all, I have to criticice the local circumstances once again.
Because Tarja has not given them any lights at all, and the boys are
performing almost in complete darkness. Therefor there is a photopit,
which ain't everytime the case at concerts. And we can use flashlights
fortunately., otherwise, we'd not taken one single decent picture.
To make it short, the Kings of Modesty are going for this typical 80s
powermetal, reminding me on so many other bands of this era. So this
is nothing new or even innovative, but pretty entertaining - so
literatually not bad but also not overwhelming. And that's why I fear,
that the finns, if they are not careful, drown in the jungle of
Rock'n'Roll. Yeah, maybe I'm wrong - you never know. Maybe they are lucky
and get where they want to, most of all on a higher popularity level.

I have often
asked myself, why Tarja has never thought about going for a classical
carriere as an operasinger.
Either the
love for Heavy metal is bigger than the one for classical music, or her
voice ain't skilled enough to sing those big
opera parts like Elektra from Richard Strauss or Aida from Giuseppe Verdi.
We never will know for sure. But it's a fact, that Tarja's jump with
Nightwish into the showbusiness was a big success. So she could be not
that wrong. On the other hand I believe, that her seperation from the rest
of this band was maybe not such a good move. Because right now, Nightwish
are doing quite a bit better with a new singer, then she does with her
solo carriere.
Anyway, we are here tonight, and there are only 2 changes in Tarja's live
set compared to last time. the lightshow ain't taht exclusive anymore as
it used to be. And the band line up looks a bit different. Mike
Terrana Drums (Masterplan, Savage Circus, ex Rage, ex Malmsteen)
Christian Kretschmar Keyboards (Schiller)
Oliver Holzwarth Bass (Blind Guardian, ex Sieges Even), Alex
Scholpp Guitarren (ex Farmer Boys) Max
Lilja Cello (Hevein, ex Apocalyptica).
A
real interesting Line
up indeed, and it works very well.... –
Another
positvie fact is, that Tarja, who is certainly the focus here, gives her
musicians enough space for some excellent solos, exspecially what's up to
the drums. But well, we are used to Mike Terrana's extravaganza, ain't we?!
The 800 fans here appreciate it very much.
And there is one other little thing to mention. It is obvious, that both
coverversions of Alice Cooper's 'Poison' and Gary Moore's 'Over The Hill
And Far Away' goes down best at the audiance, which tells us, that the old
classic tunes never die and still do best.
Towards the end of the set,
Tarja moves into the middle of the audiance to perform some acoustic songs.
And again it goes down very well - no complain about that.
So if you get on well with this special style of music, like Tarja's one,
then you could describe this evening as pretty successful.
And
Tarja herself knows this and says a 100.000 times thank you to the
fans. Let's hope, that her success level stays the same and doesn'd go any
further down the drain. - Therefore a new album is needed soon.... time
will tell.....
