Ehhhh…
almost unbelievable that this band is already going for 30 years. To get
it straight, this outfit is most of all Chris Goss, and then there is
nothing for a long time. But when you check the various line up's you
will read names like Ginger Baker (Cream), Josh Homme (Queens of the
StoneAge), Nick Oliveri or Twiggy Ramirez (M.Manson/NIN). A very good
result and past this group's got. A band who often is named the founder
of the so called Stoner Rock. Although this long time Mr.Goss has only
put out 5 studio- and 3 livealbums, whereby the early works has reached
almost cultstatus. Well, the music of Masters of Reality is hard but
still pretty deverce. Prog Rock with lots of bluesy elements is the best
deescription for this sound carpet of full of contrasts. The latest
release entitled ‚Pine/Cross Dover’ came out about 3 months ago.
Reason enough to return to Europe for a life promotional visit.
Unfortunately the venues have become smaller meanwhile. And here in
Munich the Masters Of Reality have only found their destination in the
small 59:1 club in the heart of the city. Mind me, if this place ain't
too much crowded and the show times ain't too late, then it would be
really nice in there. But both aspects are the case tonight. It's
absolutely overcrowded with sight handycaps, the light is absolute shite
for me as a photographer, and I seem to be the only one here. Showtime
for the support is 9.30 p.m. ...and that one carries the long and extraordinary name: Vic De Monte’s Persona Non Grata. Whoever doesn't know this
act anyway, will do rather hard to remember the name, thanks to it's
complicated lenght. And I can't tell you too much about them, exept the
fact, that they started out in 2005, and past march 2009 the band put
out their debutalbum 'Autoblond'. The group consists apart from Vic De
Monte of James Childs, Sargon Dooman and Alfredo Hernandez. And people, who know this rockband, know that they like to play 2 hours and more. So please prepared for a long night.... a very long night... Not so nice for people, who have to get up early in the morning for school or work. But at this point, there is nothing you can do about it anymore. It's a fact, that my feet already hurt from standing around for so long until the Masters of Reality go on. But then there is no stopping anymore, and the stonerrock hits the place with all it's power.... The Band Line up, apart fromMastermind Goss, is John Leamy still behind the Drumkit. And according to the official MySpace Page it is Brian O’Connor on Bass. With the Keyboarder I'm not quite sure.because on the website it says something else. http://www.myspace.com/mastersofrealityofficial Never mind, because most place up there on stage is anyway taken by the fragile silhouette of the big boss having most of the spare limelight on his personality. It goes down well on the audiance, that's for sure, an audiance, who consistis of some older generation but also some youngsters, who weren't even born, wenn the Masters of Reality started out. The music is played hard and non compromising. Stonerrock at it's best, but mixed with quite a few blues elements, giving the sound a rather interesting touch. I have to confess, despite my scepsis in the beginning, I'm positively surprised of this performance. Only the fact, that it's still far away from the encore at 12.30 a.m. let me leave the place early. And I do not have the slightest idea how long they kept on playing. I'm also not sure, who is responsible for these too late show times - the promoter, the clubowner or the band. Apart from that I can only say, the name is high definition quality no doubt about that.... Good Night. |
