I
have waited 2 years and 9 months for this concert - no kiddin'.
And not only because of seeing the sexiest man alive up on stage
again, but simply because of the reason, that this band belongs
to the coolest acts, I've seen on stage.
Yeah well, this sounds now a bit overdriven. But it's the truth.
- And believe me my friends, after more than 25 years of
reviewing concerts, nothing really can put me out of my slippers.
Of course there are artists, I'm really looking forward to, when
they come along. But by attending aprox. 150 concerts every year,
it happens only once or twice within these 12 months, that I'm
standing on my head because of enthusiasm.- Anyway, I remember
very well, when the Eagles Of Death Metal came to our town for
the first time as a soloact. And to be honest back then, I only
went there, because I had a photocall for some magazine.
Otherwise I'd probably have missed out on that. Because as I
just mentioned, I did'nt know this band 'till that very day, and
because attending so countless other events, where I'm doing my
job, I am very selective. - And of course there is this
irritating name of the band. Whereby they have nothing in common
with the Eagles, nor with Death Metal. Their music is as far
away from DM like Gospel choirs from fusion jazz.
But whatever I experienced then at my first EODM show, seemed
rather somehow surreal. So surreal, that I almost forgot my job
as a photographer. The slogan was sold out, and the audiance was
a rather young one with an average age of aprox. 17 - 25. And
these kids went nuts at these - not that young anymore scruffy
guys. No there wasn't any extraordinary stage outfit, no special
effect or costumes - whatsoever. Up there, there was a total
ordinary Rock'n'Roll band, looking pretty normal visually, but
they lifted the venue out of it's angles. Halleluja, I surely
don't exaggerate it, when I say, that exept the EODM, only bands
like AC/DC or the The Eagles have taken me to such an orgasm
before.
Well, and now they are finally back again, in almost the same
line up, but only in a bigger venue, than last time almost 3
years ago.
This
one here tonight is sold out with 1.500 fans. And because I do
support this band with all the power I'm able to as a music
journalist, since I've seen them in 2007, I have managed to get
a rendevouz with the one and only Jesse Hughes. (our little
small talk can be found in the interview section on this
page at the Diary - link given below )
And at this really witty and interesting meeting I got to the
conclusion, - that this band is only so great, because their
singer is so absolutely crazy, wild and luv'able. (what a good
laugh as well - view Diary link on the bottom of this page)
To
make it short and painless, both supportacts - Sweatheat and
This City played without me. Sorry about that.We are the same 2
photographers like last time 2 1/2 years ago, sharing the
pit again for the whole show. You don't get this luxury not very
often, believe me. Because usually it's the odd 3 songs, and
then off we go again out of the pit, and sometimes even out of
the venue. But in Jesse's opinion, the visuall aspect gets more
interesting the longer the show lasts because of the sweat and
the worn out condition of the actors up there, who experience
one or the other highpoint themselves. (yeah well, when there
aren't enough chances to take of those in normal daily life -
you gotta get rid of your surplus energy up there, don't ya'?) -
And yes of course, we luv taking the chance for staying in the
first row to catch every little "movement" up there.
The audiance is getting louder and louder by yelling: Jesse, Jesse, Jesse...
so well then.....
Ladies and Gentlemen, here they are: The
Eagles Of Death Metal ! –
The
magic starts off with ‘Only WantChu’, a song with a double
meaning, that's what it seems. And Jesse puts on his most charming smile,
he's able to. And wauw... within one second all girls in the
frontrow get laid within a second. And me myself, I hold tight
on my camera *lol*. One thing is for sure, this band stands and
drops with their frontman, whereby the rest of the gang ain't to
dispise. To give you a brief introduction of the boys, there is
Dave Catching on guitar, Brian 'Big Hand' O'Connor on bass, and
on drums newbe Joey Castillo, who by the way is also handling a job within Queens Of The Stone Age'. - So what? It's all a
big family, and as we know, Josh Homme of QOTSA is also
still a member here, although nowadays only a passive one, within EODM.
And
if this ain't enough, Troy Van Leuwen from supportband
Sweathead is joining the band right in the middle of their set
to jam along with them . And guess, what other band this
gentleman is participating in as well? I assume, I don't have to mention it,
do I?
But in the end,
it is Jesse, a devoted father of one son, living in the
desserts of California,- who let's the venue once again drown in
a galactic big bang. Whether it is his performance, his sexy
hip-swing or his moustache, which has already become some sort
of brand for this band. His intensive aura let's even Brad Pitt
look pale as a bunny in the shade.
And 1.500 Fans
are getting crazy, some of them shooting across the barrier into
the pit. Risk for life included. But who cares at such a
phantastic party with so much energy. Yeessss that's what I
think of a true Rock'n'Roll orgy. And the adrenalin level takes
at least 5 turn overs on it's way to the moon and beyond - of
course with the speed of light and the dope of all five senses
we got.
The Highpoints
are of course ‚Cherry Cola’, or the Steeler’s Wheel, - a
little changed Cover version – ‚Stuck In The Metal (not Middle) With You’
and at the end of the official 90 Minuten Set of course –
‚Boys Bad News’- Multiple highpoints are wonderful, that's
why we get one more love and attention with the Rolling Stones
classic tune 'Brown Sugar', whereby I got the impression, this
has been a spontanious input. Followed by 'Wanna Be In L.A, from
the current album 'Heart On' and last but not last 'Speaking In
Tongues' finally knocks us out.
'Boys Bad News'
Unfortunately
I messed this clip up acoustic wise. Thanks to the
really crowded situation within the venue, it was almost
impossible to
leave the pit. So my cam got the full power from the amps bombed
into
it's microphone. Sorry about that....
And
though this trip of the Eagles Of Death Metal seems to me not
quite as energetic like the first one in 2007, - but this might
have been due to the fact, that I already knew, what it's gonna
be like, and it's not been a surprise anymore like first time -
(or is it maybe the much bigger venue, or a littleaging?? :-))) - so
this new Rock'n'Roll Sex Trip has once again captured all of our 150 senses,
providing at least 10 orgasms.
No kiddin' - This is Sex, and Drugs and Rock'n'Roll in it's
truest form, No more no less.
Love declaration included - No need for Contraception :-)
