Yes, they still exist, these rare little diamonds inbetween all those countless Music events within one year. Those wich are so great, that it almost seems unreal. And they don't need to avoid any comparison. But it is also these concerts, which often make me cry, because of so much ignorance shown not only  by the media but also our music society over here. Okay in this case the excuse for such a small audiance could be the fact, that it's monday, beginning of yet another working week, maybe the ugly weather conditions, where many of us prefer a comfi sofa instead of leaving the house again for some event. Or last but not least for one more reason, there are too many events here in Munich right now. In any way, you can turn it round, however you want, but up there, there is an english Rockband, who could easiyl sweep away 3/4 of all other acts, what's up to musical skills and talents.
Stylistically Threshold are going in sort of a Dream Theater corner , maybe not quite as fizzy and complicated, but therfore  some hints  harder.
However, maybe the lack of audiance is due to a rather unlucky timing. The band hasn't got a new studiorecording out. And the latest one is from 2007. There is only a new Single-Box-Set on the way.
Never mind, Threshold are here now and will be giving their best again, including two supportacts, whereby the opener Spheric Universe Experience play without me, because I'm a little late and arrive just by time when the second band Serenity form Tyrol, Austria come on.

Shame on me, but to be honest with you, I do know this band Serenity, who actually come from, where I am from originally, only by their name so far. Well, for my excuse I want to say, that there are already so countless many music acts out there, and as I'm not only working with one music style, but with many other's as well, it can happen, that there is one or the other I dun' know. So what?!
The first thing coming to my attention, is, this strong, clear voice of singer Georg Neuhauser, who apart from the band, is currently studying for his doctor degree in history and geography. He is the one, who sticks most out of this bunch, also visually.
The band goes for straight power rock with a little dark touch. - But well, it's up to you, what you think of thier style.

The personal communication with the audiance goes well down, and the fans reflect back their devotion. Frontman Georg does his chat with the kids in a high sophisticated german, until some fan tells him: "you can talk in your dialect, here in Bavaria that one is still well understood." - So what again?! But at that point the short stint is already over again -
The focus is laid on the latest release 'Fallen Sanctuary'.

Maybe I should mention, that Serenity have been on tour together with Threshold before. And whatever worked in the past, I mean, why shouldn't it work again? And it does, though Munich has got the poorest audiance on this tour so far. Again and for an excuse: Munich has never been easy in that way.
I still hope, that these boys won't give in and come back sooner or later. Hey, Munich ain't that far from Tirol, is it?!

What comes up next, is, like I mentioned in the beginning, almost too good to be real...

I've seen this band about 2 or 3 times before in the past, but I can't remember that it was this good. The musical standard can easily be measured with the one of Dream Theater for instance. Maybe these guys are not so over perfectionists like the Americans. But one thing is for sure, they own the better singer than the others. With Dream Theater I often think, that they would be better off without the frontman. But here the singe is, what you call the icing on the cake. And that one again consists of the finest ingredients you can even think of. Everything is just right and every tune is set on the right spot. But you're wrong, when you think, that all this is a highly dead serious concentrated performance. No, it is rather a huge bonfire of music with earcatching melodies and intellectual soundstructures, which increases the listeners attention. Maybe it's also guitarist Pete Morton, who ain't that long with the band yet, but brought some more rock rhythm along into the show.

And we all know, how often frontman Damien Wilson came, went off and came back again in the band. Although some tongues say, that he performs the songs from the era, where he wasn't with them, in another way, I can't complain on this either. He does a good job, also by flirting with the girls in the audiance *lol*. And the obvious luv back doesn't even irritate him a single inch.
Despite the rather difficult material, a Threshold show contains a lot of fun. Not a single boring minute, and the sound cascades overwhelm you. You feel like riding a huge wave, fall down in a hole to lifted up again. Okay, that sounds a bit pathetic. But that's the way to describe Threshold's music best. And I've hardly ever seen so many happy faces in an audiance like tonight.

The setlist speaks for itselves and doesn't leave any requests open for the passionat progrock fan. Everybody gets a piece of the cake. I just mention the superb 'Consume To Live' from the very first record 'Wounded Land'. It's 16 years old, but it still sounds up to date.

There is this over lenght title 'Critical Mass' which seems shorter the way it is played live on stage. And 'Art Of Passions' is announced as best song ever by Threshold. The very last song 'Paradox'  takes you back to the beginning. Like the very first song, it is from the debut album 'Wounded Land' from 1993.

This show lasts for 2 hours and a bit. And no, my feet did not  hurt, and I did not watch the time. And as you know, only then, a concert is really good, no matter who is up there, playing whatsoever.
My result: Threshold certainly belong to my personal top 5 this year. And all you musiclovers and ignorants out there, who have not been here tonight, note this band in your backheads and get your butts of the couch, when this band is around next time. Because then you can truly learn, what the art of music is all about.
This here has been simply brilliant.
