Yeah well, this tour of long term rockers Paradise Lost from England isn't going under a lucky star is it?! So guitarist Greg Macintosh had to leave the current tour, heading back home, because of serious  illness of a family member. The rest of the guys found substitution rather quickly  in Milly Evans. But that one again has to follow some duties with his own band in December. So the band had to cancel some dates in December.
Thanks god not in Munich yet, whereby Nick Holmes says before the show, that it's not quite the same musically.
But let's face it, most of the fans here don't realise the acoustic difference and are not impressed. Most important is the fact, that they are here and playing tonight....And that's what they do, including 2 supportacts.

Ghost Brigade is the name of the Opener, uand what shall I say?? , - once again a finnish outfit is included in this package.

We're getting used to it, don't we. Because Finland ain't just known for it's 1.000 or more lakes, but also for countless Heavy Metal Bands. So there we see, Mekka ain't located anymore in the Orient but more or less in the north of Europe, at least what's up to this musical style.
In each case, this lot is going since 2055, releasing 2 albums -  ‚Guided By Fire’ 2007 and ‚Isolation Songs’ von 2009.
Ghost Brigades  are going for a mixture of Melodic Death Metal and Doom Metal. They are going for a very sad and melancholic average mood. Whereby I have to say, that their performance ain't bad at all. But it is definately music for listening not so much for rocking along with it. And yes
you should't be suffering neccessarely of depressions, because Ghost Brigades are dark, very dark indeed.

Samael from the french part of Switzerland are next...

And though the musical style of this lot is put into the draw of Death Metal, I would rather consider them in a sort of industrial corner. But never mind, everybody can decide for him/herself what to think about it. In each case, Samael have worked their way through establishing themselves in the Biz. No surprise, as they are on their way since 1987 looking back on 8 albums, 4 EPs and many singles and demos. There is only singer, guitarist Vorphalack (Vorph) left from the original line up. But that the most important figure in the band anyway. The rest is exchangable.
With this tour the goal is to promote the new alum 'Above'.

For me the show seems a bit monotone and somehow sterile. Not, that it's bad, what the Swiss guys are performing here. But during their set I can't avoid a certain impersonality. It's like a film, playing, without any reaction towards the audiance, who is answering with lethargy despite a few Die Hard Samael fans.
Mind me, you have to give this band one thing. What's up to their physical waste, this is truly amazing....

After that, it's time for Paradise Lost, and those are very professional also without their normal guitarist.

No in fact, substitution guitarist Milly Evans does very well fitting in this band  and performing their songs. Probably it's only the band themselves who are realizing this small, fine difference. But for the fans it doesn't matter at all. They rock along with dark metal symphonies of Paradise Lost, as they are always  did and have done.
I should mention, that this band underwent a major musical change within the first quarter of their carriere in the very early ninties. They changed their style from Deathmetal to Gothic-Darkrock. And it didn't harm them.
Despite of Nik Holmes, the band features also: guitarsit Aaron Aedy, Bassist Steve Edmondson and newbe drummer Adrian Erlandsson.

It's just 2 months now, that the new and 12th studioalbum named ‚Faith divides us - death unites us’ came along. And that's the reason, why Paradise Lost have gonne on this extensive european tour. Apart from the guitarist problem, which is no real problem here for the live show, not much has changed. The atmosphere is still filled with mystery fog interrupted by interesting light aspects. And singer Nik Holmes is doing everything to keep the mystic and the dark vibe ahead.

Yes, he can manage pretty well to do so. The only thing I really have to criticice on this concert is the time of the set, which is surely too short with just about 70 minutes. Mabe it's due to the other guitarist, who can't play all the songs, or it's a time problem, or even a current instability. Whereby there is no sign about that.
In each case, it's been too short. Apart from that it's been a decent Paradise Lost show like always.

I'd say - 'till next time and in the usual line up. And let's go for another 20 years - yeah well, maybe just 'till soon again.....
