Punk again
for a change, and this is Punk from the glory punk times, as Peter
Bywaters and his Testtube Babies come from the glory end seventies era,
where also the Sex Pistols, Toy Dolls and Exploited have risen to
successs. Peter has most of all established himself with the song 'Elvis
Is Dead'. Next to him there is also guitarist Del Strangefish (Derek
Greening) left from that time. On Bass - Paul Henrickson since 1999 and
Caveman Dave (Dave O'Brian) since 2003. For some years, it's been sort of between 1998 and 2003 the Testtube Babies took a break. But after that, they were back again, following the strategy: what the Sex Pistols can , we can manage as well. The only slight difference is, that the Pistols enjoy some kind of cult status. Let's put it that way, within Punk circles, Peter & The Testtube Babies certainly belong to history. And every friend of this musical style, comes alog to see 'em once again live on stage. Mind me, Peter had been here in Munich twice in the nearer past. Tonight we've got a slight delay, as the band sufferede the bad weather conditons in Britain following the closure of the airports. . German rockers V8 Wixxers start their support set also 30 minutes later and try desperately to keep up the good mood in the audiance. Just to explain it right, the V8 Wankers and the V8 Wixxers are one and the same band. The only difference is, like their name says: The Wankers sing in english, and the Wixxers keep their lyrics in german. Apart from that there is not much of a difference what's up to the music. They act like prolrockers with songs about booze, they've got tattooed all over their bodies, and have dozens of bottles on stage. But despite all this image care, I can't avoid the impression, that the image ain't their real characters. However, the music of the V8 Wixxers is made for absolute partying and to sing along with... The only little weak spot, is the fact, that the audiance don't really go along with it.... http://www.myspace.com/v8wixxxer Actually I thought, that the band might come on stage dressed up in Star Trek costumes, like shown on the tourposter. But unfortunately they don't.. Shame - because that would have been truly photogenic :-))) In each case, you can see, that Peter and his mates are typically english, whether it's their looks or their accent... But however, these punk
relicts from the Seventies kept themselves in shape, no doubt about that.
And also the physical conditon is still a very good one, is pushed up to
a upper level by a good decent Weissbeer. Apart from that, Peter is
beating the punk philosophy outta himself and onto the more and more
enthusiastic fans. Slowly I gotta be careful not to get inbetween this
madness in front of the stage. Yeah well, what else to
say? It's been a little short for my taste, but apart from that we can't
really complain about this appearance. |
