Now
it's getting a little complicated, not only what's up to the, yet not to
well known name Oz Noy, but also what's up to his music. I have to
confess myself, that I haven't heard too much about him so far. And the
fact what made me concious about his visit here in Munich is the name of
his drummer. And that one is Dave
Weckl..
I assume, for every advanced music lover (mainly in Jazz and fusion) I
don't have to explain, who Mr. Weckl is. - But I think, I do have to
loose a word about Oz Noy, because he ain't that famous yet, exept in
his home country Israel and the New York area. Although the 37 year old
guitarist is already a genius on his instrument. To
be very honest, until a short while ago I didn't know at all who that
is. But because of his new and fourth album 'Schizophrenic' I do know
now. And I can asure you the music of Oz Noy is very interesting and
good stuff. Mind me, you should bring some love for Fusion along for it.
Because it's rather difficult music and more suited for listening than
for rock along with. And such a performance like this here needs
first degree musicans. Oz Noy is such a genius, as well as bassist James
Genus. And Dave Weckl is one anyway. But
it is of course Oz Noy, beeing the focus here. Oz started playing music
at the young age of 6. When he was 16, he played with all the
established musicians in Israel, and with 24 years of age he was
one of the best in the country. In 1996 he emigrated to America, or
better described - to New York. And meanwhile he is completely
integrated in the NY music scene with his mixture of pop, rock, blues,
jazz and funk. And of course there is this certain, individual groove,
moving thoughout Oz Noy's set. Hang
on, stopp... there is actually something to criticize about on this
evening, and that's 6,50 Euro for a small beer and some glas of wine
starts be 9,-- upwards. Jesus wept... then rather a glas of mineralwater
for 5,40 Euros. But well, this here is 1) of all a nightclub, secondly
it's Munich, and 3) it's always been like that here. |
