Ladies & Gentlemen, may I introduce you to Jason on the picture below. Jason is english, he is 20 years young and Jason is the god damn best guitarist I've spotted for ages....

In fact, you've gotta see him and his band live on stage, just to believe, that this all is true. And even then, I have to squeeze myself  about 10 times in my arm or whatsoever, just to make sure, I'm not dreaming. No, I'm not useing earplugs, and I don't suffer any loss of reality. The eight worldwonder has just been born. Yeah well, actually he's been born 20 years ago. But within the past 5 years it became obvious, that this is a miracle. Halleluja, if I did believe in hinduism , then I would be definately convinced up there is the recarnation of Jimi Hendrix. But I'm only an atheist, so I just do believe in what I see and hear. And that is as real, as the words you're reading right now.

In Blues Rock circles, the Brew are already a hot hint. They come from the north east coast in England, from a small town named Grimsby. And that one again, is according to Jasons description within our little smalltalk before the show, dirty, boring, dead, with an even more dirty seaside. Only fish and chips are the best one's in the whole world there..

And because of all that, this threesome is glad and grateful to be on tour most of the year, just not to get stuck back home.
Anyway.....
Next to Jason Barwick, there is Kurtis Smith, only one year older . And he's a super talent himself on drums, sometimes beating the hell outta it with his bare hands. Jon Bonham says hello from beyond. And this my friends is definately not overdone. Last but not least there is Tim Smith, Kurtis dad,  accompanying both youngsters on bass. He is kinda guardian angel, looking after the rest of the gang, exspecially, when they tend to drown, like yesterday night. Yeah well, we got a delicious beer here in Munich, don't we?! And mind me, Life is Rock'n'Roll, ain't it?!

And that's why they are so glad an grateful to be on tour most of the time. just not to get stuck back home.

Tim Smith used to play in some local bands in the very past. Inbetween there has been a huge gap, 'till the idea and this project came up.
We are in the present right now, and that one presents us the third album by The Brew, named 'Million Dead Stars'- ( the debut album 'The Brew' came out in 2006, and the second CD 'The Joker' in 2008. You just can't miss the influences in their music. Led Zeppelin says hello, and the already mentioned Jimi Hendrix and also Stevie Ray Vaughan, just to mention a few. And when I listen to Jason's enthusiastic speech about all these old heroes, I truly show respect. I mean, Jason and also Kurtis were born, when  Jimi Hendrix was already twice their present age dead. Got me?! But you see, there is still some young generation existing who carry and transfer  the musical heritage furthermore into the future. There is only one big difference to back then. Nowadays it is rather difficult to reach a cult status. And this has nothing to do with individual skill and talents. It's rather up to economy reasons and the current time.Sort of, what I told you in my last review.

So, down to the fact, that the Brew haven't even been discovered back in England, they are, like I said before, a great insider hint here in Germany and the rest on the continent. And these guys seem to feel pretty well over here, as they have been here several times before.
I am pretty sure and dare to bet, it won't take that much longer, until this band will leave the club scene behind them, a clubscene, counting aprox. 100 - 500 people each show. This group just have to hit it big soon. Everything else is a waste.
Our Garage here in Munich is crowded counting about 150 guests. That's more then at many other gigs happened here before. The expectations are set rather high, due to the fact, that we have heard a lot about them, but we still do have some doubts about the youth of two members. Wrong - we are really wrong. And within the first 30 seconds of the show, all doubts are blown away due to the exploding facts on stage. And there we are at this point, where we have the impression, we experience a fata morgana  like Aladin's wonderlamp.
This kid up there just throws us out of our Cowboy boots. Despite all his incredible guitar acrobatic, Jason ain't no standing still at one spot, but rather try's his best for the next world championship in jumping high up.

It almost seems unreal, if there wasn't Tim Smith, calming the situation down, yeah well sort of. But although he seems like a methusalem compared to the next generation, he shows the same energy, just without the gym. His son Kurtis is almost fighting a battle with his drumkit, exspecially, when he beats the hell outta it with his bare hands, like I told you above. It's very impressive indeed.

Most of the songs are own material from the 3 CDs, including a little jamming and 2 Hendrix tracks - 'Little Wings' and 'Voodoo Child'
Inbetween Jason takes a bow of a fiddle and works his six strings off in a way, that in the end there is not much left of this bow. And this reminds us strongly on... yes of course - Jimmy Page, who used this way of playing as well. - I bet, that Jason must have watched this carefully in the past. And he's not copying or anything. It's just this - learning by doing. And you do need to get it from somehwere, don't you?!

Apart from that, the show of the Brew is, despite of hard work, spiced with humor and wit. Everything here is just perfect, - the music itselves, the excellent way of performing, the physical drive and the high entertainment level. This here my friends has been real great, including huge talents paired with flashy youth.
And I for my part really  fell in love again.... no kiddin'

one of the probaby best gutiar players at present times
I just ask myself, what is he gonna be in another 20 years? -  Hendrix was yesterday, - tomorrow it's maybe Jason... who knows.....
