well, it's getting difficult again for me. Not what's up to the music, but because of the fact, that I've seen our No.1. Heavy Metal guitarist Axel Rudi Pell at least 150 times. Mind me, not quite as much , but at least 20 times for sure within the last 20 years. And this is enough, to have your mental judgement influenced to a certain point. But as a musicjournalist you have to stand above those things and ignore  this feeling which says: well I've seen that a 100times before. Of course I did, but there are still these little differences from one to the other time, including a new album, which needs to be promoted. In our case that one is called 'The Crest' and it is the 14th studo recording of Mr.Pell, including the coveralbum 'Diamonds Unlocked'. And of course there are more than a dozen live and compilation recordings and 3 DVDs.
so let's face it. Axel is not only one of many german Hardrock Musicians, but he's almost what you call an institution. And not only this, but he's gonna turn 50 in june, and he doesn't look any older. Or better - he hasn't changed within the past 15 - 25 years, still looking the same  including hairstyle, look and intellectual forehead wrinkle. And all that and his music is still going, at least what's up to the continental part of Europe. Also this time Munich's true metal society has gathered for once another show of Axel Rudi Pella and his band. Whereby I have to admit, that most of the audiance has come from the countryside into Munich and not from Munich itselves- Because those again are as different as a kongo black man from a japanese Sheng Fui enthisastic. Yeah well, kind of....
But to get it straight. Our Munich audiance  does look different, is egocentric and stubborn, compared to the provinical fans, still wearing the eightees metal hoodies and the long hair. But thanks to them, there is a great mood inside this four walls.

ganz dem Rocker Image entsprechend :-)))

.And Freedom Call
will take care about that first of all

Well I have to confess, I do a little hard with this so called true metal, exspecially if it sounds so much german. But mind me, this is not seen from a negative aspect. But somehow I do miss something, call it the last chilly corn in the mill. However leave that as it is certainly also a little bit due to personal flavour of the century.
In any way it is a fact, that Freedom Call do exist for 12 years now and have 6 albums out and they are part of the german metal scene. And with 'Legend Of The Shadowking' they are mixing a new cocktail the current line up is: Chris Bay (Voc./Git), guitarist Lars Rettkowitz (from 2005) Bassist Samy Saemann (from 2009) and newbe drummer Klaus Sperling (Ex-Primal Fear/Sinner) who joined this lot this year. Merlin meets King Ludwig II from Bavaria in Babylon, that's the slogan worn out in a bombastic power metal frame.

The overture goes down well, but not overwhelming. But well, supportbands never do that easy, do they?On the other hand, such a slot is still the best chance to increase the individual popularity. Further infos about the foursome you get at:

Therefore our provincial rockers shoot up the Mount Everest, when Axel Rudi and his group start the magic.

Not much has changed. Johnny Boy is still twittering across two octaves, clear and great.

Bassist Volker Krawczak apperently still hasn't got notice from  the Weightwatchers.  And Keyboardist Ferdy owns surely the easiest hairstyle in this galaxis.

... und Mike the Animal thinks deadsure, that he si Frank Sinatra. But hang on a sec....

But first of all let's start off with 'Too Late' getting through with 'Fool Fool' and the'Devil Zone', to continue with the Tales of the Crown and 'Dreaming Dead' mixing up a perfect Lava Flow cocktail. That one again leads into a drummer boy thunderstorm and Franky Boy rises up again with a funny version of 'My Way'. What more do you want. But however, that's how Rock'n'Roll should be, not dead serious but also entertaining. And we all know that Mike Terrana is a born showman.

What's up to the meistro himself, I can only repeat myself, you can feel, that the spirit of his big mentor Ritchie Blackmore is everywhere here. And that's not only what's up to the musical performance, but also what's up to the body language of Axel. But don't get it wrong. This is definately no negative aspect.

Stylistically they have stopped somewhere in the Eighties what' s up to german Power Metal, and they won't change anymore. No, he doesn't have to, don't worry, as he's doing pretty well. It's not enough for a superstar status, but far enough for a decent position in the middle league in this genre. Like I mentioned before, I do find this epos not much extraordinary or dramatic. But that again is probably just a matter of beeing used to it from before.
