Never
say never again - this is a well known saying. But in the case of
Germany's Rockband no1. the Scorpions it has got relativated. Because as
singer Klaus Meine mentions: there will definately be no reunion ever
after this fairwell tour. Drummer James Kottak states: don't worry, this
very last trip will take at least two years when not even longer. So
there is enough time left to celebrate this final good bye.
And it is indeed a very poisoned sting in the tail here at the show in
Munich - in the truest sense of the word, most of all concerning the
first supportband ‚Blowsight
These
american Newcomers, who have most recently supported James Kottak and
his own band at the Backstage Club
(hier)
in Munich, got the message on the spot here at the Olympiahalle - no gig
tonight, none anymore. Well, not very nice is it?! Exspecially for a
young and new band an opener slot is soooo important for the personal
establishment. But this one here goes down the drain. I can't tell you
the exact reasons, but apparently it's up to technical reasons, That's
what the official statement says later on. Although I don't think it's
very fair to let a band like this fly all the way from Stockholm at
their own costs, th receive the boots just one hour before stage
time.
Next station: as known, the label of the Scorpions is situated here in
Munich. So we got the celebration of the gold record beforehead. And
there is this 'nice' lady from Sony Music, who apparently prefers next
to countless agency photographers, rather some nameless website
photographers to one or two from big magazines. Well, as we say so:
there is nothing better than personal relations.

And
the Olympia Gmbh. is doing their usual hand printing in concret .....
The absolute Chaos is
taking it's toll, and in the end noone knows anymore where is the front
and where is the back...Munichs high society of Celebrities are here as
well and is taking a sunbath under the flashlights of all the
paparrazzis.
Edguy open up at 8 p.m. in the sold out Olympiahalle (12.000 fans)
And singer Tobias Sammet
reminds me in his look and movement in the beginning strongly about
Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. His constitution is great, where everybody
knows, how difficult it is to combine intensive singing with moving. But
Toby, as small as he seems, does it very well.
The intro is done
with 'Dead Or Rock', followed by 'Superheroes', 'Price Of Creation', ‚Ministry Of Saints’, Save Me’.
‘Lavaotry
Lovemachine’ and last but not least 'King Of Fools. And that's it
already. Unfortunately the support is neither allowed to use the cat
walk into the audiance nor too much light and energy.
But no question, Edguy
did pretty well within their restricted circle. And little Toby is
shouting out in his passion: long live FC Bayern and tomorrow we all
meet at the city centre to celebrate the championship.

9 o'clock and the lights go out to welcome the Scorpions with a lot of
bombast and fireworks

And after an overrated
intro, our aging rockers storm out on the battlefield to start off with
their 'Sting In The Tail'. And shall I tell you something? Nothing has
really changed since last time, apart from a moving drum tower and of
course the new album. By the way - drums... once again the ingorance of
Munich's audiance shows up y reviewing the recent gig of James Kottak
and his own baand, where only 30 people found their way to the Backstage
Club. Though his band and their party leave the Scorpions far behind
what's up to the action. But everything is a question of reputation and
financial aspects. I'm truly convinced, if you put the Scorpions on a
small stage, like the Backstage Club, where Kottak played, without any
special effects, there is not too much left from all the glammer of
Germany's biggest rockband. One more fact tonight which seems
rather strange, as the Scorpions are usually known for having excellent
sound conditions at their shows Not so tonight, where the acoustical
circumstances end up into a not definable mix. Well of course it's also
always a matter where you are situated in the venue. But even at the
most far away corner it shouldn't sound like it does tonight. .

At least singer Klaus
Meine does his announcements in german and not in his strongly accented
english. You know what I mean. Rudi Schenker seems like he's having his
3rd spring right now and still thinks, he can easily put up with a 25
year old. Whereby it is okay to think and act like a 25 year young, but
not in that redicoulos way what's up to his physical bodytalk.
Guitarist Matthias Jabs
does much better up there, whereby Bassist Paweł Mąciwoda
vanishes mostly in the shade of the other's exept some very few points.
James Kottak does get a
little solo up there on his instrument - named Kottak attack. And he
truly goes for his slogan: 'Rock'n'Roll Forever - whether shown on his
t-shirt or below on his skin (watch in clip)
The soup bowl is
continously spiced with pyro effects and the catwalk is so often used
that it get wrinkles. Those of course are all additional elements,
putting even more impression onto the audiance. But like I said before,
the real and realistic music fan does realize the true quality this
rockband is offering us. On the other hand it's all entertainment. And
that's what most of the audiance wants, so what?!
As you can see below, the
setlist includes next to some new songs - of course the classic tunes
like ‚The
Zoo’, ‚Send Me An Angel’, ‚Holiday’ and ‚Big City Nights’.The
encore - of course:
‚Still Loving You’, the unavoidable ‚Wind Of Change’ and last
but not least ‚Rock You Like A Hurricane’.
12.000 conservative
rockfans are in generell impressed and show a lot of affection. The
endresult is a well done show of the Scorpions and a satisfied audiance.
For me myself it's a bit weary, as I've seen 'em at least 20 times
before.
PS: and I have to
confess, that at the first whistle to 'Wind Of Change' I walk off the
place, not only to get away, before all 12.000 leave for their car at
the parking slots, but also because I get shaked by this track.
Don't worry, tastes are different, and that's how it should be,
otherwise it would be boring in this world.
