Okay, to get it straight the average listener does know this musician probably only because of one single song, and that's  Right Place – Wrong Time’.yes and maybeLet The Good Times Roll’,does sound familiar somehow But apart from that, you really have to be a fan of this artist to know his music Meanwhile DrJohn a.ka. Malcolm (Mac) John Rebennack is 70 years young of age, and behind him are 42 years of productive years therefore he was introduced into the Blues Hall Of Fame in 2007 A cmplete history can be checked out here
However currently Dr. John is on tour again in Europe to promote his new Album 'Tribal.

One of his stop overs is Munich, Hotel Bayerischer Hof, but not as usual at the posh nightclub in the basement of the building, where Jazz legend Ron Carter is appearing live same evening, but we are here at the Festival hall of our number one hotel in Munich. The place is very well filled with aprox. 1.500  guests. The atmosphere is just right, the price for drinks not so much, as a mineralwater is 4 Euros or a glas of wine even 8 Euros. But anyway, we are not at any concert location but on the high level of a sophisticated hotel.
Dr John lets us wait. And showtime is is set 20 minutes late. No supportact as usual at events at this house. Therefore the show is devided in 2 parts with a 30 minutes break.

After the band has already taken their position, Mac Rebennack comes appears up there. By the way, the 5 times Grammy winner adopted his name from a voodoo master from Louisiana. It is rather difficult to catalogize his music, as it is a mixture of Blues, Jazz, Gospel and Funk and even some Honky Tonk.
This again is underlined by his unique nasal voice, which provides the exact right note. The Doctor, also known as the Night Tripper, is accompanied by drummer Herman 'Roscoew' Ernest III, Bassist David Barard and guitarist John Fohl. All of them are worldclass musicians. But Dr.John wouldn't be happy with less than that.
As excentric as he looks like, he does present himself, mostly sitting in front of his piano, but now and then standing up, pushed by rhythmic energy shots, sometimes even handling the guitar and showing off his version of Southern funk.

His music draws an exact border between individuality and a certain commercial aspect to pull the average musiclover as well as the true fan. And it goes down very well. As I said before, it's the magic of the Voodoo blues and his intensive piano playing and funeral voice, taking care for the good mood here And I think, that Dr. John shows here, that he is far from retirement. Here in Munich he has been definately on the right place at the right time....
