It
doesn't happen too often, but it does. And so tonight I have to fullfill
2 photojobs. Whereby it doesn't make things easier, when both location
are as far from each other as these two. And unfortunately mankind has
still not discovered the art of flying. On the other hand there are two
things tonight, which makes it possible to manage both jobs. For once we
got a new trainstation right to one of the venues, - the Backstage area,
and this with a direct connection to the other club. And second, one of
the shows happens withing the Free & Easy Festival, where there is
not entry fee and all the participating acts are starting their sets
rather very late. In our case, the headliner Sepultura is hitting the
stage at 10.30 p.m. So well, arrival at the Backstage is 6.30. The advantage for this early time is a comfortable parkingspace. The interview dates with Sepultura is delayed a little, which ain't a real problem, because the photocall at the Anne Clark show at the Ampere Club next door (on the other side of town) starts at 9, so there's enougth space inbetween. - Anyway, I leave the slightly chaotic tourmanager of the Brazilians behind, and just go for it, catching the boys between doors for a rather interesting exchange of thoughts. Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser insures me, that everything is fine and in peace, and they are thinking currently about a new album. And yes of course - Europe is the place to be. And last but not least he's talking about his current relationship with Max Cavalera, his former bandmate, who actually foundet the group back in 1984, and left them in a feud. But apparently nowadays there ain't any hate left, and all those rumours are totally untrue, and there are no plans to reunite in the original line up. Well it's a very diplomatic comment.
The Small Talk is finished.....
....and I leave the car
where it is 1) because I wanna keep my parkingslot and 2) I'm much
faster by train anyway at least 10 times.
As a rather interesting
fact, the audiance transmits exactly the feeling what Anne Clark's music
reflects - or the other way round. Anne Clark's music is a mixture of avantgard, electronic with a little Rock and Folk and even classical tunes. That's what I'd describe it, or just simply - cross over, which is performed by the 50 year old english singer more in spoken words, then sung. It is indeed a little extraordinary but interesting and worth a listen. She has put out more than a dozen studioalbums and many compilations and live recordings since 1982. And although Anne is still caught within the independend scene, she certainly got her tight place. Her band includes next to some other great musicians, also guitarist Jeff Aug, who is also the booker of this tour. The only
circumstance I don't agree really, is the often described dark aura of
Anne Clark, which I'm seeking here with no result. But never mind, the
audiance does obviously like what they get and spend a lot of applause.
I for my part haven't got more time left unfortunately and have to leave
the place to be in time back again at the other venue again. More infos
about Anne Clark you find at: Okay, back again via train throughout the city to the Backstage, where there are only minutes left, till Sepultura hit the stage. But the problems have still not gone for tonight, as a free concerts pull many kids, also if the music ain't really meet their taste. But a concert for nothing ..... yes of course we take the chance - might many of them thought. The result is an overcrowded livingroom. And the way from the main entrance to the photopit in the front takes sensationelly 13 minutes using my fists to make the way free to move forward. As soon as I have arrived my destination, Sepultura are welcomed like the Rolling Stones in Papua NewGuinea. And they are starting their set with such an energy, that the heat in here is dancing a twist. Also here the lights are
a disaster as usual, but I'm used to at gigs of this band anyway. And
the barrier is shaking due to the pressure of the kids in the first row.
Thanks god it's not breaking. However, I presume, that even the band
themselves, didn't have such a crazy audiance for a long time.-
The newest album is still
A-Lex, which came out past year and is a 100% conceptalbum describing
the clockwork orange subject. Though the setlist is a best of....
gourmet including the classic tunes as 'Arise' and 'Roots Bloody Roots'.
As with Anne Clark it's the same rules here with 3 songs only for
shooting my pics. And because outside the photopit the situation has
become so unbearable that not even a moscito can't make a roll over,
there is only one solution - storming the backstage door besides the
stage straight out through the back door into the night. The rest of the
Sepultura show goes on without me, same as with Anne Clark, but for
different reasons. I got my photos and the smalltalk, and someone will
be very happy in a minute to find an empty parkingslot.
