They
are still around, all these countless artists, who get so much
underrated. There are too many talents out there, not getting enough
attention and beeing ignored, despite the fact, that they are playing
their arses off, mostly in miniclubs with a small audiance. This problem I've talked about pretty often in past reviews. Although everytime I experience this case again, I could dearly cry. As on the other hand you get all these many chart breakers served, who often don't own much of a talent, but getting sold easily to an average audiance because of their easy listening commercial melodies. Let's fac it, the average consumer is happy, with what he gets presented by the media. And our 'great' musical landscape is orientated mainly by money. Quantity not Quality rules the economy nowadays, and the expression cult does almost not exist anymore. This evil spell is circling faster and faster. And the less products are getting sold, the more live action is happening and even more retart babies get born. It's not so much the talent anymore which is requested (you can create almost everything by modern techniqs nowadays) it's the amount of products getting sold faster as the speed of light. (apartfrom the real big and great acts). But what am I talking that much. The insider amongst us know these problems anyway. And we are seeking the famous needle in the groove, the raw diamond, who still shows a lot of class. Thanks god, this species still exists, mostly underground. They only glitter, when they show up upper ground, and when they get polished. I'm talking about first class musicians like Eric Sardinas, Lance Lopez, The Brew, Jeff Scott Soto, Robin Trower just to name a few, - and many more.... Steve Gibbons
does belong to this cathegory. With 69 years of age and 40 years of a
carriere behind him and 15 albums, he certainly belongs to the
establishment -
no question about that. And ever musiclover of the elderly generation
knows this name and knows his biggest hit
‚Down
In the Bunker’. Also at the Village
Club in Habach (close to Garmisch in Bavaria) the Steve Gibbons Band had
been playing before. The problem is mainly, when the date is put on a
working day during the week and the sky has opened it's doors and it's
pouring . Then even the biggest musiclover ain't sure about leaving his
comfi couch. On the other hand, tonight there are still more people here,
as at some other shows, I've experienced at this club so far. I would
say, there are about 70 something fans here, some of them obviously
knowing Mr.Gibbons personally. Showstart is early, as most people have
to get up early next day for work. - Evergreens this is called
usually. I also assume, that Gibbons gets stimulated by the audiance at
each show. That's how many artists do so. But if the audiance is always
as small as the one tonight, there is this risk, that the personal
engine of Gibbons, which is still very high, could loose it's oil sooner
or later, if you know what I mean. |
