They are still around, all these countless artists, who get so much underrated. There are too many talents out there, not getting enough attention and beeing ignored, despite the fact, that they are playing their arses off, mostly in miniclubs with a small audiance.
This problem I've talked about pretty often in past reviews. Although everytime I experience this case again, I could dearly cry. As on the other hand you get all these many chart breakers served, who often don't own much of a talent, but getting sold easily to an average audiance because of their easy listening commercial melodies. Let's fac it, the average consumer is happy, with what he gets presented by the media. And our 'great' musical landscape is orientated mainly by money. Quantity not Quality rules the economy nowadays, and the expression cult does almost not exist anymore. This evil spell is circling faster and faster. And the less products are getting sold, the more live action is happening and even more retart babies get born. It's not so much the talent anymore which is requested (you can create almost everything by modern techniqs nowadays) it's the amount of products getting sold faster as the speed of light. (apartfrom the real big and great acts). But what am I talking that much. The insider amongst us know these problems anyway. And we are seeking the famous needle in the groove, the raw diamond, who still shows a lot of class. Thanks god, this species still exists, mostly underground. They only glitter, when they show up upper ground, and when they get polished. I'm talking about first class musicians like Eric Sardinas, Lance Lopez, The Brew, Jeff Scott Soto, Robin Trower just to name a few, - and many more....

Steve Gibbons  does belong to this cathegory. With 69 years of age and 40 years of a carriere behind him and 15 albums, he certainly belongs to the establishment - no question about that. And ever musiclover of the elderly generation knows this name and knows his biggest hit Down In the Bunker’.
His musical style and singing is often compared with Bob Dylan. So no surprise, that Gibbons founded the Dylan project besides his own band. With that one, he performs Dylan classic tunes in his individual way. But even concerts with the Steve Gibbons Band always include one or two Dylan tracks.

Well, and where are our Oldies and former legends most beloved? of course - here in Germany. And so Steve Gibbons is touring almost every year in our Country with his band who is: Phil Bond – (Piano/Akordion), Brendan Day – (Drums), John Caswell – (Bass) and Howard Gregory – (Git/Violine). -

Also at the Village Club in Habach (close to Garmisch in Bavaria) the Steve Gibbons Band had been playing before. The problem is mainly, when the date is put on a working day during the week and the sky has opened it's doors and it's pouring . Then even the biggest musiclover ain't sure about leaving his comfi couch. On the other hand, tonight there are still more people here, as at some other shows, I've experienced at this club so far. I would say, there are about 70 something fans here, some of them obviously knowing Mr.Gibbons personally. Showstart is early, as most people have to get up early next day for work. -
Gibbons music ain't too loud or fast, it's posh, as he is himself, and it's delicate. He mixes singer/songwriter tunes with Bluesrock and even Jazz. And inbetween he entertains the audiance with amusing comments.  The usual break at the Village interrupts the 2 hour performance. And next to own songs, the Dylan spirit flys across the scenery. For me personally the highlight of this show is the song 'Jazz' - what a great tune!!!! And Steve Gibbons performs that one without guitar but with a hell of a feeling. As the title says, this piece of music is an excellent Smooth Jazz composition with tons of emotions in it. But also standards like 'BSE' stills sound great and not a wink old fashion.

Evergreens this is called usually. I also assume, that Gibbons gets stimulated by the audiance at each show. That's how many artists do so. But if the audiance is always as small as the one tonight, there is this risk, that the personal engine of Gibbons, which is still very high, could loose it's oil sooner or later, if you know what I mean.
But over all, this here has been onc again a small but very neat concert, one for the calm musiclover not the wild rocker so much. And yes, before I forget: 'Down In The Bunker' hasn't been on the setlist tonight. But who cares!
As mentioned in the beginning, Gibbons is one of these diamonds, sparkling below the Hugo Boss shirt...
hey hey, please get the hint, won't ya'.....
