So
well... I'd suggest, this canadian boy should slowly think about moving
from Toronto, Canada ober here to Europe. Because as often, as Mr.Jones
has been To the old Continent almost no other artist can compete with
that. The Point of the fact is not the much higher Success over here. In fact currently Danko celebrates a huge success with his latest release 'Below The Belt'. But as he says so within the interview before the show: "I just love to to tour extensively, and my biggest goal is, to reach as many countries as possible, such as India or East Asia, where I haven't been yet." However, - here in Munich, Germany Danko has been 4-5 times within the past 2 years. And this time he's got a very proper reason. That one is named 'Below The Belt'. - Hey, and that's not just a saying, because Danko is known for his straight between the eyes song lyrics and comments. Because his provocation often devides apart from good taste with a hard opinion. But many kids in the crowd at a concert don't realize this, as they only speak a fair school english. And as Danko shoots his words out of his mouth like a high speed tornado, none english native speaking person can follow all this that quickly, apart from the rhyme. (Guess you gotta read the lyrics in the CD inlays seperately at home in peace.) Never mind, as the hard driving non compromising beat pushes up the atmosphere, gets Granddad forget his rheumatism and make him jump up into the air at least 5 feet high. And that again is infecting everybody else, like a chain reaction. And with aprox. 900 kids here, the eye of the hurricane is programmed before the boiling point. However first of all it's the first dish, named‚Young Guns’ freshly imported from Great Britain. No clue, whether these
boys named themselves after the famous cowboy movie or out of a
different inspiration. It's a fact that these english guys have founded
the band seven years ago. Past year their first debut EP 'Mirrors' came
along, followed by this year's debut album 'All Our Kings Are Dead'. So
it's about time to promote themselves beyond the islands. And what is
better, then picking up this supportslot for Danko Jones, who
currently is more up to date than ever before. Young Guns are: To
create an individual style is great, but
although there should
be a few edges within, just to draw a line from one track to the other.
But it doesn't really. Shame
and what else to say... ? 40 minutes and off we go again.... Danko Jones has exchanged his comfi Jogging outfit with a designershirt of Boss (or Versace - whatever..) as well as a pair of neatly ironed Levis Jeans, who I personally had almost ruined before the show backstage by sitting on it coincidentally. But thanks god, I didn't. And now Danko is up there looking absolutely smashing with the focus on his extravaganca belt, which is an absolute must for Danko at his appearances. And the postmodern rebell starts off like a rocket to the moon, letting the walls almost tear apart. Nothing new for everybody who knows the threesome around Danko himself (Voc/Git), John Calabrese and Dan Cornelius (Drums) and has seen them live on stage before. But it is in fact the way of their interpretation, the firious self ironic mood, and powerful aura around Danko, who could easily go for a model job at Dolce & Gabbana, what makes this show so special. And there is on more speciality. At other concerts it often doesn't go down well, when the frontman/woman talks too much between the songs. With Danko this is different. He provokes his audiance, stings them into their tail like an aggressive wasp, and splatters every conservative society rule into a puzzle of extroverted destroyment, which again explodes into the air and the room. No, noone complains about his verbal attack between 'Sticky Situation' and 'Baby Hates Me'. It rather seems, the fans are actually waiting for it.
On the setlist above you
find 5 tracks of the new album inbetween wellknown songs, and the result
is a great tasting mixture of Danko's juweniles. No, noone can't
complain. Our star here, who next to his music, also hosts a radioshow
at a swedish radiostation and writes a monthly column at a german
hardrock magazine, deserves his reputation. This rather laid back next
door guy in normal life becomes an animal on stage, throwing with
imaginary bombs and reaches the nerves of every conserative person. |
