Question: what does someone need to be happy?! yes exactly! - 3 cords, 120 decibel and a decent rhythm sticking in our ears. Yeah well and maybe four or five beer, and our german average musiclover of Rock'n'Roll is absolutely happy and very pleased. Right music should entertain. - But the understanding for music is very different. While some just need the mentioned before - 3 cords, other's are looking for a high quality standard. And a third party wants messages in Music with an intellectual touch and a philosophic note. - As we know - tastes are different. But one thing is as sure as the amen in the Sixtinish chappel in the Vatican. In the end, including the 5 beer and maybe 2 or 3 brandies, even the most intellectual instrumental freak is happy with those 3 simple cords. And the circle is closing itselves. Let's put it that way, it is always a matter of the mood and condition of the very right moment. And who could do it better than Status Quo, who stayed faithful to their 3 cords within the past 40 years. Granddad is dancing with his granddaughter, and the rheumatism is taking a break for at least 2 hours and dances a Rock'n'Roll.
Status have done it just a 100 percnt right. They have never gone away from their line, and still go for simple, straight Rock'n'Roll, which touches the nerv of all generations - at the right time, on the right place in the right mood. - To be honest, who wants difficult fusion jazz or delicate progrock, when you're already a little drunk and happy.
And that's the strategy of these english guys. Many of us are laughing, and don't take this band seriously anymore with their simple rockmusic. But in the end it is a fact, that Status Quo still belong to the most successful rockbands around Europe. And now they are back again, like a ship in a hurricane, despite some heartattacks and other health problems. And they rock the house down, - Munich's Olympiahalle - completely sold our with 12.000 tickets. Noone more fits in here - amen!

The icing on the cake is the bavarian Rock'n'Roll Band no.1 - the Spider Murphy Gang, who open up for the Quo.

They have been very successful here in Germany around 1979 - 1980 something with their funny bavarian Rock'n'Roll, sung in their native dialect. And they still do pretty well by playing aprox. 200 concerts a year on many events in this area. And here in Munich this band even celebrates some sort of home bonus. Though, I gotta say, that the Spiders have some minor problems in the beginning to get the ball rollin'. That's what it seems, until they find the fifth gear in their ferrari. Also the soundconditions are not the best one's first, but noone really takes any notice.
I just think, on one side, it is surely the yellow of the egg, to have got this supportslog on this tour, to reach so many people. On the other hand, they come better across in a smaller venue. But who cares. The do their best and try to get out the best for themselves.

Singer Günther Sigl has still got this big frog eye glimpse (he's also just done a solo record) guitarist Barny Murphy still seems to be the bad boy with a hell of zynism. And the rest of the gang can't be ignored, though none of them is left from the original line up exept the singer and guitarist. But they are all great musicians, as for instance keyboardist Ludwig Seuss, who is also leading his own band playing some different stuff with them. Ludwig Seuss Band

But back to the action here, including some great improvisation and solos. But Maybe those one's again, should have been kept a little short and instead having played another whole song. - Apart from that it's very obvious, that the Spider Murphy Gang does go down well on all the Status Quo fans, and surel some of their own fans.
And mind me, we don't exept any bad words about our boys here. Dare you,

Time for Status Quo, after they have put their hands into concrete for Munich's Rock'n'Roll hall of Fame, during the break. They are rollin' in like a high speed train.

And from one second to the other our soup bowl here at the Olympiahalle is boiling. And 12.000 know immidiately, what time tells. There is no holding back anymore, no sitting still on a chair, but the egg of columbus got rid of it's shell, and all coming out is high voltage, spreading on granny and son in law in the audiance, sweating the hell out. And it's worth it, as Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi can still manage  to let the place explode, though they are rather looking like very sophisticated elderly gentlemen - only visually of course.

Starting off this supernova with 'Caroline, followed by 'Something 'bout You Baby I Like' etc etc. (check Setlist below). By the way, Quo can look back now on 60 hitsingles and more than 30 albums, too many to be presented in one show. But be sure, to find their biggest  hits like 'In the Army Now', 'What You're Proposing' and 'Down Down'. Whereby the first mentioned song from 1986 has been their most successful hit ever, though it's even a cover for the Quo. (The original was first recorded and also penned by Bolland and Bolland in 1976).  And just a few days ago, Rossi and Parfitt have re-recorded their cover hitsingle again together with the Royal Corps Of Army Choir. - However, there is also one song, they play, which I personally do like very much. It's 'Oriental' from the album 'Heavy Traffic' from the year 2002.

Oh, I should mention the rest of the band. And those guys haven't changed lately. This is: This is Andy Brown (Keyb.), John 'Rhino' Edwards (Bass) and Matt Letley (Drums.

There is no time for breathing. And Rick Parfitt is seeking the audiance, as far as it's possible. The fans again are grateful and no eyeapple stays dry, including a high nostalgic level and an even higher alcohol status.

The Olympiahalle has developed into a boiling party mile. And to repeat myself, what some other band can't manage with their acrobatic, difficult playing, Status Quo  can do with 3 simple cords. What else to say?. Seriously, I myself often listen to music, which is even more difficult than some King Crimson or Dream Theater music. But now and then, you've gotts switch off, getting away from advanced heavy music of high fusion art, just to rock along to these 3 tunes, like the one's  Status Quo play.

It's only Rock'n'Roll and..... yeessssss - we do like it! No more no less - at least for tonight - Cheers.
