Yeah
well, I've gotta be careful, that no inside facts affect this live
review. Though these facts are not the unimportant. To get it straight,
if Max does continue to play russian roulette with his health, Soulfly
will definately be history sooner or later. I have met Mr.Cavalera over
the past 20 years several times for different interviews and talks. And
therefore I do have an almost perfect comparison, what's up to his
conatantly increasing health matters.
To be honest, after tonight's short rendevouz with Max, I seriously ask
myself how he still can manage to play his show. But in other cases in
the past, I have often watched this phenomena, as if a switch had just
been turned round. And some aphatic weeping willow has devoloped into an
exploding volcano, just to fall back again into this - out of this world
- lethargy afterwards.
Well let's see and wait what comes up...
It's been 13 years Soulfly so far, during those 7 albums have been made
including the new longplayer 'Omen'. And this one again is still
promoted within the 2nd part of the 2010 european tour. - Also here we
got another of these american bands, where we ask ourselves, why they
haven't moved over here to Europe yet for good. Because all those Heavy
Metal Bands have focused their touring onto Europe anyway. On the
other hand, last time Soulfly have played here in Munich, it was the
Backstage Werk, fitting in 1.200 people and now they hit the stage in
the smaller Backstage hall. And although this one is stuffed and
crowded 'till the very last inch, - it's only 650 Headbangers this time
- half the amount as last time, who have come here to check out once
again Max Cavalera, guitarist Mark Rizzo, bassist Johnny Chow and Joe
Nunez on drums. - On the other hand, this band still receives more
attention than most of the other bands of this kind.

The battle of Waterloo is started by Supportband Incite
And
because everything stays inside the family, I should mention that this
band is lead by Gloria Cavaleras son Richie, who is the stepson of Max.
Of course Rich is enjoying some advantage of the reputation of his
oldies and is supporting Soulfly as well as Cavaleras Conspiracy on a
regular base. So far so good, and there ain't no much more to say about
Incite, who are appearing in almost complete darkness presenting us
their kind of metal. The highpoint is is then 'The Slaughter' the title
track of their debutalbum. But apart from that they still have to catch
up some more individuality, though they've been on the road for six
years or so.
I
presume, Incite still have to work on their selfconfidence. But what is
not there yet, can still happen, as they are still very young... So go
for it....

A little later Max is up there on stage and no taifum can blow him away.

He's
leading his flagship with a serious attitude without moving the slightes
wrinkle underneath his big foot beard. But beeing the only photographer
in the front pit, I do recognize pretty soon, that Max does hard to sing
and play the guitar at the same time. Most times he holds tight to the
microphone, not to loose control. Voice wise not much has changed, and
he's still growling out his hymns as
‚Seek’n’Strike’, ‚Carved
Inside’ or the Sepultura classic tunes ‚Arise’ and ‚Roots’. It
is alos pretty obvious, that the new album 'Omen' includes much more
aggressivity than the past albums. - However, - and whatsoever Cavalera
is neclecting in guitarplaying, Mark Rizzo is catching up with. In fact
this guy has worked out himself quite a reputation ins metal guitar
circles.
