Who??? I have heard this question about 50 times or more during the past 2 weeks. Well, all insiders of the international Bluesrock-Jazz Scene, I don't have to introduce this man anymore. Because Mr.Principato is part of the global biz for the past 40 years or so. And he does belong indeed to the best guitarists of this stylistic. In the Seventies he's been a member of the Jazzband Powerhouse and released the critically aclaimed album 'Night Live'. Later on, he played with George Muldaur and contributed music to
Billy Price And The Keystone Rhythm Band Big Mama Thornton, Sunnyland Slim, James Montgomery, and the Band The Assassins with  Jimmy Thackery, the former guitarist of the The Nighthawks. In 1984 Mr.Principato decided to start his solocarriere. And that one again includes already 15 albums including a live recording. Apart from that there are 2 DVDs in his catalogue.
Here in Europe this exeptional guitarist is an always welcomed guest in the clubscene. And yes, you are guessing right, - here we got on of those examples - the better the man, the smaller the club. Meanhwile I guess, I've wasted hundreds of hankerchiefs crying,- that many artists I've experienced lately, who played in front of a less then small audiance. Sad but true, but the average german music lover  is just not ready yet for such brilliant bluesriffs and great slide impressions. It's as simple as that - sad but true. And there is just a tiny insider circle left, who are going for this subject and who know how to appreciate it.

Tom Principato belongs to this small circle of musicians, who satisfy the longings of the just described insider. So let's go for it here within this livingroom atmosphere, and he plays with such a feeling as if he's standing in a huge stadion. He is good, very good indeed. And what I like most is the fact, that everything seems so easy  without any efforts played. Like many other musicians Principato sees his occupation not as a job, but as a pleasure.
He's accompanied on stage by Bassist Jay Tuner and drummer John Tracey and a local guy on bongos,..... and like today, even the Village boss Didi Blues gives a hand on guitar inbetween. Respekt, as this doesn't happen very often.

Principato works himself throughout an endless seeming setlist. But he doesn't go to strict one song after the other and he's exchanging some tracks or just the order of the tracks. Songs which I do like exspecially are 'Down In Louisiana', 'too Damn Funky' and 'Fish Fry', just to name a few.

14 guitars the 58 year old american owns. But on stage he uses just two. - It's so nice but same time als sad because of such a small audiance, counting just about 40 souls. But those show a lot of enthusiasm and gratefulness to a genius on guitar who is not arrogant or overdriven at all. This here is pure guitar art. To be honest, Tom Principato could play the whole night, and it wouldn't get boring at all.

So please take this live review as a little hint to go out and see this musician live, next time he's around near to your place. You won't regret the ticket price, I promise.
This guy is yet another guarantee, that the guitar oriented Bluesrock is still alive and kickin'...
That has been truly phantastic.
