I often have to wonder, about the generell interest at Hardrock- and Heavy Metal concerts. Some of these artists torture themselves through many dates, with only about 50 guests, while other's just lift up their hands to show the usual metal finger sign, and the Headbanging avarage consumer runs amok with all his or her enthusiasm. And if this last mentioned case happens and  same night,  Motörhead are playing just 5 air miles aways, then it definately means something. To get it straight: while all these good old Power Metal Bands rather crawl on a hard road in our country here, the Thrashmetal liga celebrates, what we call a third spring time. Holy shit, I don't promise too much to you my friends of the sophisticated noise level loveable thrashmetal philosophy. -
So let Motörhead get boiled in Lemmy's left shoe, but we do celebrate another big bang in a miniformat at the much more intimate Backstage Werk. But all this with a heavyness that even Osmium melts like candlewachs underneath the christmas tree. Here we got four softi... eh sorry, hard boiled eggs, who have gathered for this concert trip to present us more than 20 shows  here in Europe providing a melodic flowerbunch of sweet metal music.... yeah well - sort of :-)))
Same time we've got a generation clash here. While headliner Kreator, Exodus and Death Angel are alltogether lively and very fit relicts from the Eighties, and who currently earn such a great fan respond here in Europe, as they used to get back then, - Suicidal Angels are a rather young act on the thunderstorm front.

Yes well, if you can describe 9 years on the run as rather new....

But while the rest of the bands (most of them) have crossed the magic fourty already, - Odysseus, Achillen and Hermes belong to the young generation. Well, real name of the Frontbird is Nick Melissourgos, the six string is handled by Panos Spanos and the four strings by Angel Kritsotakis. And then there is drummer Orpheas Tzortzobpoulos. Eieiei - greek language, difficult language. But don't worry, these Athen's boys have chosen the international communication, which is of course english. And that one again certainly belongs to the generell education nowadays as well as a driving licence does. Anyway, Greek's Thrash export can show off 3 demos, 2 EPs and 3 studioalbums. And their name is not that unknown anymore.

Maybe that's why the respond of the youthful audiance is a very good one at this early hour. I for my part can't find anything really extraordinary, but the Vibe is okay and has lid up the sold out place (1.200 fans). And that's the most important thing, isn't it?.

Death Angel start off, where Suicidal Angels had finished, but with even more engine.

And the steamboat is speeding with about 150 knots around the Backstage Werk - Cape Hoorn, lead by Captain Hook a.k.a. Mark Osegueda, who could easily participate at the next light athletics worldchampionship and catch a medal there...
This american party combo with philippin roots has not much changed visually since the Eighties - well done - and our Captain reflects a hell of a lot good mood  in each way like an exploding bonfire.
Everything could be so nice, if the average living room lights would be feed with a bit more energy. But unfortunately it's not. And while there are dozens of flashlights in the first fan rows used by fans and their mini cams, we photographers are not allowed to use any flash unless you don't wear an AAA pass round your neck :-)) But that's life, and there is no time to complain about it.
Death Angel put their focus on their latest release 'Relentless Retribution'. But they do also perform tracks as 'Voracious Souls' or 'Evil Priest' from the 1987 debut record 'the Ultra Violence'. So you can say, this is a loose retrospective of the band's back cataloge, as far as the short showtime does allow this.

Thrashmetal whatsoever, but Mr.Osequeda himself is already a guarantee bonus for much fun on stage and also off stage.
Hey Mark: Parlez vous francais? Yeah well, I think, that's one thing, we still got learn first....:-)

And here we are - the uncrowned sheiks of Exodus, who almost seem a little static on the dinner plate - after the Happy Go Lucky -number of Death Angel. But that's only for some first minutes.

And those grumpy looking faces of our Oldies hold up the average image care. Exspecially frontbird Rob Dukes provides the bad boy image best including his "skinny shape" and his up to date hair creation like Kojak meety Yul Brunner - yeah well almost. But thowing this dark glimpse onto the audiance could make some Jack the Ripper jealous. And his battering tenor gets all plastic beer beakers burst into pieces.
Okay, okay, let's get serious again. Exodus do own something, what we call a legend status in some ways, although they have gonne as well  through the past and still going on economy crisis as many others. The good thing about them is, that they don't take a rest, but still work their butts off to hold on tight onto their believe and reputation.

These guys go for a best off.... program. And they only do 3 tracks from the new CD 'the Human Condition' . Therefore we get smashed the classic tunes 'A Lesson In Violence' or 'Strike Of The Beast' around our ears.

Drummer Tom Hunting is responsible for the engine, while Lee Altus and Gary Holt put the oil into the flame, which again - including Rob Dukes pushing up the fans, developing a true moshpit in this place. Somehow Exodus seem to stand above everything -untouchable and holy - (for the fans) That's why I'm somehow surprised, that this band hasn't  reached a status like Slayer yet or other's of that kind. Hey, maybe this is because of some things beyond controll, who knows.... or just unlucky coincidences. In my opinion, these guys should be at least one cathegory higher as they are situated right now.

But well, Exodus are winners in here and right now anway. And I presume the next round of their continuing battle in the system will happen in a not too far away future.
Let's put it that way: bless Europe....

The last in line is  Kreator, your favorite band from  Essen, as Mille announces withing the set.

But first of all... it's Johnny Cash, having the first word with his undestroyable 'The Man Comes Around', which is accompanied by a neat little film, showing some backstage activities. Yep, it goes well down. And as we know, different things are usually drawn to each other...

What follows then is a typical Kreator show with the same chlichee anouncements inbetween, as Exodus used to provide. But the big difference is, that Mille does 'em in german, and so they get much more noticed...
And if you think a headliner has the most light on stage, then you're terribly wrong in our case here. I've rather got the feeling, the later the evening, the lower the lights. So ready to go for a happy swearing orgy of mine and some other photographers about the
circumstances.

The Setlist doesn't leave any wishes open for the ambitioned Thrashmetal fans. But somehow I do miss the last pepper corn within the bloody Mary of Kreator.Maybe this is due to a slowly increasing tiredness of touring. I mean, this Munich show is the 16th in a row. And there are some more to follow. Mille has exchanged his usual sprint up and down the staircase to a much lower comfi walking. And his rather laid back physical condition tonight doesn't really fit to the heavy flow of Kreator. Or maybe I'm wrong... But I'm pretty sure, that our mastro here would have spent exspecially this evening somewhere else then on stage . But job is job, and we have to get through with thisl Well I presume not many friends of this beautiful art have noticed this detail, ... And that's good....

However one thing is for sure. In generell this Thrashfest has been a solid success in each way and certainly leaves some longer lasting impression and memories. For me personally - Death Angel impressed me most and believe me, - that's not only because of the overwhelming charme of Mr. Osegueda :-))))
