Yiippiieehh, long live the Gossip papers and the Yellow press. Because it truly seems so, that a few headlines and little scandals are enough to make a new star on the Rock'n'Roll heaven. Well that's not quite correct, as Good Charlotte do exist a little longer. They were discovered at a talent contest 11 years ago. But it was the paparrazis and yellow press journalists, who threw them chilly in the butt, because of some affairs, or better two. Mind me, one of them was faster finished than it had begun. - However, long talk, short sense, it's pretty simple: take 2 brothers, who are even twins put a little talent into their craddle and provide them a cheak image. And if there is even some luck to catch the attention of the press, (which had nothing to do with the music) then the curvy way up to the top is pretty even... Yeah well, sounds easy, but for most young musicians in this biz, it's not, unless your name ain't Joel and Benji Madden.

1996 these kids founded their band back home in Waldorf Maryland. The jump to success happened in 2000 when they were discovered  during a new talent's festival. This one was followed by many other appearances. And with each show their popularity increased a little more. The result so far are five studioalbums, two of them have gonne gold and platin. - Joel and Benji's mother is responsible for the band's name. This one has been adopted from the kids book “Good Charlotte: The Girls of the Good Day Orphanage”
And mum used to read thier boys often a good night story out of this book.
So far so good.... and to underline it twice again. the fact, that Joel Madden has got married to Lionel Richies daughter Nicole and is the father of her 2 kids, and Benji filled the mags with his brief affair with Paris Hilton, helped a lot to increase Good Charlotte's success even more. Although it's double bladed sword, as we say so. Because on one side the band's shows have developed into screaming orgies of countless teenie girls and doesn't get serious anymore by the rest of the Rock'n'Roll world. On the other hand, the whole potential of the rather commercial Punk-Pop-Rock is often not recognised.
Long talk short sense and that's as sure as the amen at St. Peter's cathedreal: Good Charlotte are swimming currently on a wave of success, where other bands don't even dare to dream about it. Meanwhile Joel and Benji and Co. keep returning to Germany every year and most of the venues are always sold out. As it is tonight at Munich's Backstage Werk. 1.200 indivduals find place within this club, and probably 1.201 mad kiddies are here. - And when I personally do feel quite old, then it is mainly at an event like this one. But let's start off with the magic. And by the way, when there is punk included, I'm the first one to have a listen....

Nashville Tennessie is calling first, or better it's musical new generation, who, as in this case here, have nothing to do with Country flair.

Since their birth in 2005, this group has released two albums. And the supportslot for Good Charlotte came along just in time to promote the current release 'A Promise To Burn', which had been released last year. For Framing Henley this is the first visit to Europe. The boys, who are probably not older than 20 something, are trying hard to deliver their message and transfer it onto the youthful audiance within the rather low low light atmosphere.

And what a surprise, the knot is untying but within the next minute it's a complete chaos of human bodies, jumping to the rhythm of Framing Henley who themselves are giving their last shirt for everything.

Well let's face it, the music of this new generation rockband from the capitol of Country Music in the USA does not show a special individuality so far. But thanks to enthusiastic power of the band, the mood in here is increasing constantly. They are young, they are cheak and very selfconfident. So I could easily believe, that their next european trip ain't too far away,  - if they still exist of course.

45 minutes break is too long for most of the audiance. And the kid's choir become louder and louder, shouting constantly: GC, GC, GC....

But this doesn't make the Madden brothers nervous. When Benji Madden comes first on stage, the screaming reaches a level as high as an aeroplane. Halleluja, the whole situation somewho seems grotesk. Because the hard rocker image including black leather and tattoos doesn't really fit to the noise pollution here. Joel Madden shortly after follows his brother on stage and also the rest of the band. And within this moment I can truly understand, why Nicole Richie has snapped herself Joel and not Benji. On the other hand I don't understand, what Paris Hilton liked about Benji, or better what he liked about her. But well, this doesn't belong to a live review, does it?!

It's a fact, that thanks to the screaming, you can't really define the sound conditions. And the visual look of the band is so much harder, than their music. That one rather shows a very commercial note, more Pop than Rock, only edited by some harder guitar riffs and a slight touch of punk. But maybe it is the easy listening melodies, who have helped Good Charlotte to some of their success, which again made their private affairs possible. And this again pushes them even higher on the scale.

While singer Joel rather keeps a little back with cheak talks between the songs, Benji confesses his wild tour life with sleepless party nights. - Anyway, one point more for them, when the single 'The River' comes up from the album ‚Like It's Her Birthday’.

Next to some other of the smashits, the magic is closed by two encores, and those again are finished by the tracks.

Well GC are a - still - young rockband for even younger fans, who have to be careful, that they don't rest on their success provided by so many outside circumstances. This could end badly. Apart from that, GC are playing a rather commercial, average Punk Rock'n'Roll, not more no less.
