Overkill have on their back so far, but in my opinion, they still belong
to the best live action in Heavy Metal. And believe me, I don't say that,
because I know 'em pretty well for many years. Many other friends of
this musical style share this love for the band. And in addition to that,
Overkill ain't just an ordinary rockband, they are more or less an
institution, a furniture, which ain't new anymore, but still owns that
special polish giving the performance this individual sparkle. Overkill are cult, are untouchable and an absolute guarantee for a high energy show with lots of chilly in the butt. Actually there is not much more to say. - They can look back onto 16 studioalbums within their carriere, whereby the latest baby, named 'Ironbound' was born last year.< But let's face it... Meanwhile Bobbx Elsworth and Co. belong to those artists, who wouldn't need to make another album. Because the fans, who are coming to their gigs, still want to hear most of all ‚I Hate’, ’Elimination’ and ‚Fuck You’. - Well, don't worry, they get it, although the new material wants to be promoted as well...as a matter of course.. On this tour the 4
band-package travels around Europe, whereby Munich's left out again. But
thanks god, the only concert in Austria is taking part in Wörgl, Tirol,
which is just about 1 hour drive from the outskirts of Munich and a good
traffic situation. Somehow it seems, as if
big boss Schmier hasn't changed much within the past 25 years, visually
I mean. Yeah maybe on or the other wrinkle round the eyes, but apart
from that - respect, he kept himself in shape, I'd say. Same for Mike
Sifringer. Both were with the band from the very beginning and that was
the year 1983, when the project was foundet. Well Schmier took a breakr
for 10 years but liftet the homely egg shell up again in 1999. Since
then the band kept busy. Just about one month ago, they have released
yet another album entitled 'Day Of Reckoning' on Nuclear Blast label, -
a very good reason to jump on this tour trek. And
as well as with many supportacts there is one thing most to complain for,
and that's the lack of lights on stage, making a photographer's life a
hell. Apart from that.. yeah well let's put it that way... when a
supportact like this here - Destruction does a good job, the time of 45
minutes only is much too short.....
And
again, just in a few words: it's great as always. Bobby 'Blitz' doesn't
look his 52 years at all and is topfit, though he went through some
health trouble in his life and still luv's his cigarette. But he still
seems like 25 and a little bit, what's up to the average constitution,
and his open happy go lucky mind. And mind me, I wish, I had his slim
shape :-)))) One song I really do like is 'Old School' from the album RELIXIV from 2005. With this piece of music, Overkill have adapted the good old times of Punk music. No clue, whether this should be a hommage for this time or whatsoever. But it is a fact, that during this song, the 500 fans here can't be hold back. The place here is boiling
anyway, now it's gone beyond the boiling point. |
Within this short time while he's off long term collegue and friend bassist D.D.Vernie, guitarist Dave Links (by the way also a brilliant musician) who is with the group since 99, Tailer who holds the other guitar since 2001, and last but not least Ron Lipnicki on drums who is the youngest chick in every way, own the stage for themselves. Anyway, this here are Overkill pure as always and still a S-Class for themselves. This dance on the volcano is finished with - what else then - ‚Elimination’ und ‚Fuck You’. No need fro much more to get tot total exhaustion - whether on or off stage..... Tonight, I don't
think we still need sand in our eyes for a healthy sleep-well. Because
our sandman up there has managed to get us tired with his 100.000 Volt
energy. That's it again and off we go back on the highway into the
night to Munich. |
