Review 621

It's thursday evening, still no weekend, which means, we all have to get up early in the morning next day. On our Backstage areal there is emptyness, exept within the smallest venue, the Club. Everything else is covered in quiet darkness, and that's how it's gonna stay this evening. And over all tonight's supportact has somehow and somewhere got lost, so the Peacocks have to heat up the place themselves including aprox 100 freaks of obvious Pettycoat and spotty t-shirts and behaved ponytails, as well as the guys here in leather jackets and this hair style just as James Dean. Yeah well, at least the Die Hard fans give themselves very cool and sleaky. Whereby the Peacocks deny beeing a Rockabilly band. They only use some of the structure as well as the punk. And the name their style - so called Psychobilly, which is an explosive mixture of all this, and this again  for more than 20 years.
The Peacocks come from Switzerland and consist currently of: Hasu Langhart (Voc/Git), Simon Langhard – (Contrabass) and  Jürg Luder – (Drums). And they can look back on a huge backcatalogue of albums, EPs and Best of's. The latest release named 'After All' had been released last year, and the question is, whether this tour is still to promote this disc, or is this trip just for not to be forgotten within the scene? However, - but the timing is not the best, and the band does pretty hard, to get the rats out of their holes, if you know what I mean by that. But on the other hand, these boys up there on stage, don't give me the impression, as if they are worried about such things.

They are starting their chamber concert a little later then supposed due to the support act lack, and they don't care, as if there wasn't any tomorrow. But they don't know Munich's audiance, which is physically here at this place, but mentally still far away, that what it seems. And despite a lot of space in front of the stage, everybody still prefers rather standing in the back. Only a very few  indiviudals  including Marlon Brando in spee and myself have found their way front stage.. Though in my case it's rather due to the fact of finding the optimal focus for my lense in the camera.
It's a fact, that this threesome don't like long talks and speeches inbetween the songs and one track hits the other without time to breath. Only now and then frontman Hasu makes a comment, as for instance the statement, that he hates rockmusic. That again, I don't understand really, as Rockabilly and also Punk does belong in some way to the big family of Rock and Rock'n'Roll.
More difficult for me is the deviding of the performed tracks, as there is not setlist on stage or after show available. But therefore the stage floor is covered with bits and pieces of cigarettes. In fact, I'v hardy ever seen a musician live on stage who has wasted so many cigarettes within showtime as Peacocks singer Hasu. Whereby he does spit a newly lit cigarette out again after only 20 to 30 seconds because of the singing. What a waste, as we all know how expensive this hobby is - pure luxury. But well, every artist does what he or she wants - we call it artist freedom, as the normal audiance ain't allowed to smoke anything in here ....

However,.....and first during the last bit of the show, the Peacocks can manage to lift up the generell mood and let the dolls dance in the truest sense of the word. - Whereby it's got to be said, that the music of this band is everything else than a sleeping pill. NO, this is punk at it's best and it truly rocks. But what does it help, when people stand there like statues and the energy of the soundwaves get lost somewhere into Nirvana, exept as mentioned, the last 20 minutes. First at this point the snail leaves it's house and dances a tschatschatscha....
I for my part, have lost my scepsis also at this point. And I have to say, I did really do like what I just saw and heard of the Peacocks... if the circumstance would have been a little different.
