Live Review 628

Today we got one of these situations, where you can describe the visit als a trip into the blue as we say so over here. Then to be honest, I never ever heard before of a band named Favez. And this means something my friends, believe me. Although this group from Lausanne in Switzerland has been alive for 18 years now and put 10 albums out. Almost unbelievable and I truly have to over think my musical general knowledge I presume. On the other hand, you can't know everything, can you?! And I like to learn - no question about that. If afterwards this new territory is an even great one, then this it couldn't get any better. At tonight's live performance the swiss band is supported by 2 local acts from Munich, and it is a free show at the Feierwerk at the Orangehouse, where take off is at 9 p.m. with Promise Broken.

I can't tell you a lot about this outfit, exept the fact, that the band members are all very young. With very young I mean they are in their early twenties, if not younger. But according to the very few infos on the internet, this band is going now since 2006 and has on EP out. There style is described as Indie -Alternative, but in my opinion it hasn't found it's very own indvidiuality yet, letting them stick out of the jungle of countless other acts. But I don't wanna be to hard on them yet. As I said before, they are young And Promise Broken still got enough time for developing. And their enthusiasm is definately there. So what?! So come on boys for a happy go lucky further development to make eventual dreams come true one day.

Well, of to the next round with The Dope.

Those again are  Rudi Maier (Voc/Git), Franz Neugebauer (Drums) and an Apple Computer and that's it. Indie Noise Rock
what they call their music. And within an almost complete darkness John Lennon in spe (at least what's up to the visual aspect) and Co. are trying to convince the hearing of the musical individualist with an almost desperate attitude.
Let's describe it that way: egocentric rock meets melancholic singer-songwriter jargon, carried away by a desperate scream of abstract sound clouds. Yeah well, hope you can just about imagine of what this is. But in any case - the Dope win the attention of the some of the audiance. And that one again still seem not to be sure whether to decide for a smoker session front of door or to stay inside to check out the support bands.

But in the end, when finally Favez enter the stage at 11.30 p.m. even the most die hard smoker forgets his cigarette to catch their show. So in the end, inside the club you find aprox. 200 kiddies, who have come here to check out Favez and this for free.

It is obvious, that this band has got some fans here in Munich within the intependend scene. So I'm actually pretty curious, despite the last showtime, of what is coming along now. Whereby I have to say, that the extem length of this evening let my feet hurt and the inner watch tels me - shoot your pics and bagger off. but after only a few minutes Favez live on stage, the painful toes  and the watch on my cell phose are forgotten, Because this here is simply overwhelming and great.
Okidok, Favez from Lausanne are: Singer/Git Chris Wicky, guitarist Guy Borel, Bassist Yvan Lechef, Drummer Fabrice Mentron, Piano player Jeff Albelda and Keyboardist Maude Oswalt. Late on somebody told me, that this indieband  already owns kinda superstar status in the independend circles, but is almost not known in the rest of the world. Although the work their butts of live on stage. The new and 10th release named 'En Garde' has just come out and gets promoted with this tour. in each case, these Swiss guys, who's average age is middle/end of their 30s are fit as an adidias hightech sportsshoe. And guitarist Guy and bassist Yvan are in a contant competition what's up to athletic high jumps.- For me myself it becomes a sport to catch those jumps with my camera. Musically - whatsoever, but for me this is hard non compromising rockmusic with these certain edges, which drives you away without doubt.  Because of their home, Favez are going for the english language despite their french heritage, and they don't seem to be good friend with german. So most of the announcements are made in english.

And singer Chris allows himself inbetween the question - "Who is older than 20?" Most hands are lifted up into the air. - "And who's older than 30"? Still some arms are raising up-. But then he asks: "okay, and who is older than 40?" - And it's probably only me giving a sign... Well and then this good man says very charming: "no, I don't believe this, you look only 28?" Cheeeerrrsss!!! But as we say so: always keep your humor. And deep inside I think: well at least he hasn't asked, who will be 50 soon"? Because then, everybody here would probably have put into the dino saurus cathegory. ... On the other hand, who cares... you're always as old or young as you feel like. And in this case tonight I'm 38 for a change - why not.
It's a fact, that Favez did catch a few points more at this show here in Munich and they prove, that they are a serious rockband, who knows exactly to put out a shortwhile, most energetic show . And despite my plans, I truly do stay 'till the very end of this gig, and I have promised myself, when Favez are back again to Munich next time, I'll certainly be there again. And PS: my own individual musical knowledge is much richer now with one experience....
