Okay, we could easily ask ourselves, why those two are here again, after such a short while. Because both artists were here last fall in Bavaria and Munich. But the reason is easily explained, as the annuall summer Tollwood Festival here in Munich is an extraordinary situation. As I've told you in the past, within this 3 weeks lasting festival every night another band is appearing live at the Music Arena Tent. Showtimes are set very early at 7 p.m. or latest 7.30 p.m. as everything must be finished by 10 p.m. according to our town authorities. . But it ain't the strange showtimes or the location, but it's this special atmospherewhich gives concerts at the Tollwood festival this special little something.
For me personally the Tollwood 2011 starts with this concert here feat. Blind Guardian and Helloween what's up to my photographical work for various magazines.
The fact, that there are only about 1.500 fans in this place, usually fitting in aprox. 5.000 can be explained with several reasons. First of all many of us have just seen them both 6 months ago, so no need to see them so soon again and paying another fortune for tickets. Or is it the holiday season and the beautiful weather... who knows.... But it's the facts in figures doing the talking....

I
But I guess, also for Helloween 7 p.m. is a very unusal time to start a set.

And though the whole event has been promoted as a double headlining show, it get's pretty quick clear, that Helloween have adopted somehow the special guest role here. And this is not only due to their pole position here, but also due to the shorter stage time. Another minus are the bad sound conditions and the even worse light.  I mean, as many of us know, the generell acoustic ain't very great here anyway, but whatever the sound engineer of Helloween has created here is a disaster. During the somehow weak start with 'Are U Metal' and the following hymns ‚Eagle Fly Free’ and ‚March Of Time’, the vocals of Andy Deris are more to guess than to hear. It's getting a bit better during the show though. But true fans don't mind and don't care as those one's won't accept any criticism on their heroes anyway.
Within their show the band puts in a 7 minutes kind of medley of the songs   ‚Keeper Of The Seven Keys’ - ‚The King For A 1000 Years’ – and  ‚Halloween'. Playing them the full length it'll take up to 48 minutes, too long for this show here, but they didn't want to neclect those tunes

Anyway and apart from that nothing much has changed including the extra cool Mafiosi look and the - I don't care atttitude, underlined witht he typical Helloween Speedy Gonzales guitar chord. In the end they spit out the usual aces such as Future World’ and ‚I Want Out’ and the ever returning encore 'Dr.Stein'. And so last but not least the misery becomes a Royal flash again in the very end.

There's not much more to say, exept that Helloween have finally found their way back to Munich again, which happens not very often anymore nowadays. But how so ever - also this is only Rock'n'Roll

Blind Guardian  have to hurry up now to get their setlist done until 10 p.m.

Because our town authorities don't show any merci. And I remember the past, when one or the other artist wnated to play another songs due to the begging audiance, but were not allowed one more minute beyond 10. So they've got to get this thing going that we get as much as possible from the icing of the cake.
And right in the beginning it gets clear, that it is indeed possible to get a perfect sound in here. Blund Guardian are delivering the prove. The group from Krefeld in Germany is known for their visuell understatement and for their great musical construction. Everything is almost perfect and fits in a 100 percent. No, I rather think that their nice - Boy next day - image (and maybe the new short hairstyle) is responsible for the fact, that they win the hearts of the audiance straight away.

The flowerbunch is smelling neatly and very intensive. And of course also Blind Guardian have parked their best goodies in the end (see setlist below). 'Mirror Mirror' has just about been squeezed in here, before the clock strikes ten.

Then the magic is finished again and time for bed. Exspecially Blind Guardian, who are known for their more than 2 hours shows, such a just about 90 minutes set is rather very unusall and a short stint. But no whistling and calls from the audiance does help. This is it.
Last but not least it's clear, that the real winners of tonight are Blind Guardian, and this not only due to all circumstances here tonight.
However the longing for germany Heavy Metal is once again satisfied, yeah well at least 'till the next rendevouz....
