...and once again, we've got a chapter out of the series 'Lost Pearls'. And that again is read once more at the Village Club in beautiful Habach, Bavaria, very south and close to the austrian border - or better heard. Yeah well not fair for all those brilliant musicians beeing damned to play small clubs only, working their butts off just like the slaves did by building pyramids back then in the ancient times to catch some appreciation.
We've ha this topic often enough in the past, always with a laughing and one crying eye. Then on one hand we are blessed here in Germany, that those kind of musicians have been adopted by our country, though they still fight themselves throughout the tiny club scene. On the other hand we are happy and grateful that we still got this small but selected audiance who give these artists a chance to develop themselves.Because in other countries the situation is more dry than the Atacama Desert in Chile.

Dun' know how often our tonight's artist had been here at the Village before. But it must haven been quite a few times. According to his announcement he feels very comfortable here at each visit. Also most of the audiance, consisting of about 50 people have seen Mr.Campbelljohn live on stage before - not me though!

Just for  brief info it's said, that the meanwhile 56 year old canadian musician belongs surely to this advanced Bluesrock guitarists, of whom I was talking in the beginning here. Though he has released his debut album 'How Does It Feel' first in 1993. This one was followed by several other releases and many awards - here in Europa and in his home country Canada. And that's why Campbell has put his focus onto these two areas and returns on a regular base.

On his tour trips John Campbelljohn is accompanie by Neil Robertson on drums and Andrew Lambert on bass.

His repertoire includes a mix of styles such as Blues, Rockmusic, spiced with Boogie Woogie, a little country and even Reggae music. The normal six strings gets frequently exchanges with a blues guitar and even a double slide...

Next to many own songs, he throws in one or the other coverversions such as wellknown Pink Floyd tunes or for instance the Rolling Stones Oldie ‚You Can’t Always Get What You Want’, that one in a very individuall version.

It's satureday night, and so the 2 Set show ends long after midnight. And most of the guests here would not have minded, if he'd played another encore after just one. But that's not the case. Over all the critics drift apart from each other - from very good 'till average... and always the same all over again.. Well I can't comment on that one, as I do not have a comparison to a past show. But maybe that's better anyway, as I'm not influenced in any way in advance. So my personal review about John Campbelljohn is, that he's certainly a great musician, but his gig tonight somehow did not let me drop out of my pants, if you know what I mean by that.
Can't tell you why, maybe to less audiance and not enough mood inside these four walls, or his very laid back way to perform, which didn't let the place explode. Let's put it that way... it's been good and okay and pretty nice - apart from that - no more no less.....
