As the name says: it's getting russian now! Well not quite, because this crossover outfit is actually situated in Austria's capitol Vienna. And there they are an institution for some years, not only to the nonstop presence in the TV Prgramm 'Welcome Austria'. Here in Bavaria meanwhile Russkaja are pretty known as well, thanks to austrian alternative Radiostation FM4, who's got many fans across the border. And that's why our Backstage Halle here in Munich  is crowded on a thursday night.
Just a word to this band, who are going for six years now and are founded by Stahlhammer singer Georgij Alexandrowitch Makazaria - as the name says, born in Russia.
The group can look back onto two albums, one EP and four singles. And I assume it won't take to long for another longplayer surfacing the light of this world.
The name Russkaja consists of Russ - for Russia, Ska  - as the music style and ja, which means yes.
The stage show is truly extraordinary.

Russkaja are going for a mixture of russian folkmusic, some Rock and a lot of Ska played on some extraordinary instruments, what the brass section shows, next to the normal guitar, bass and drumkit, and last but not least a fiddle. That one again is played by the only girl in this band named Antonia-Alexa Georgiew, who is from Hamburg, Germany. And she is the main focus on Stage next to mainman Georgij.

The lyrics are performed mainly in russian, but also occassionally in german and english. But this doesn't matter anyway, because everybody in here is busy, wasting a lot of sweat. At the fourth song 'Tractor' the crowd gets outta hand and castrate themselves straight through the middle in a wild circle. This is party pure in russian - austrian... well let's call it - multi culti style. But some exotic note can't be wrong, can it....

Now, put it that way, at all this strange and funny originallity the careful listener can't help the feeling, that after about 10 songs it seems, that it's been only five. There is this red fine line going through out the whole stage show, which is repeating all over again and again. And that's why there is a huge similarity in almost everything. - So if you've never seen Russkaja live on stage, then this is surely an interesting experience and worth while a party. But for a reputation of such a show you really should give it some time inbetween, so it doesn't get boring... And therefore a decent - doswidanka
