Do you know what the difference between Joe Bonamassa and Ryan McGarvey is, apart from the fact, that first named one is a little more famous?Well Bonamassa looks like an intellektual but rocks the Blues away, while McGarvey looks more like a rocker but plays a pretty delicate, intellectual version of the Blues. Okay, stop making comparisons. It's a fact, that Ryan McGarvey is like a new star, shining on Blues heaven, starting to stray it's bright sparkle.
this huge talent probaby has been put in his cradle. And with just about 24 years of age this musician from Albuquerque in New Mexico. is about to swim free.
In 2007 Mc Garvey released his debut album 'Forward To Reverse'. And of course, everybody is asking, why he hasn't put out anything since back then. I can't give you any answer to that. But I'm pretty sure, after Ryan has now visited Europe for his very first time, it won't take too long for another new record.

Of Course he's gotta back smaller cakes on this first concert trip. And if there are 4 other concert events the same night, as here in Munich just right now, then it does'nt make things easier. And so there are just very few Hardcore Blues fans who have found their way here, those who go for the Blues not only since yesterday, and who have heard the name Ryan Garvey before...
First of all it's a local band, who's name I have forgotten, as I didn't see all of their show because of beeing late. They do not seem very professionell anyway, though they are playing with a certain kind of coolness. But you never know, maybe one day they find the rigth recepie.
Our young new hero here tonight , doesn't need much more practice I presume. Because after only a few minutes it is clear, what huge talent he is. With his two band mates he develops such an individual way to play, but on the other hand leans on to his idols Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix. . And so he has dedicated his idol Hendrix a whole song. And that one doesn't go for the title 'Hey Joe', but rather 'Hey Jimi' and is a very melodic hommage to the guitar god....

Let's put it that way...Ryan McGarvey goes with his music a pretty straight way, getting really into it. He is a brilliant guitarist, no question about that, only his voice doesn't convince us completely, but due to his huge talent this is a rather unimportant fact. There is actually only one little weak aspect and that's the fact, that due to his so straight line, a slight touch of monotony is appearing and the songs start to sound similar after a while.  Maybe this is due to a still missing aura and selfconfidence, which makes him seem a little lost up there. Only because of his excellent playing it doesn't matter alltogether. Ryan is sooo young and has all the time in the world to develop further and collect experiences and get a more solid ego, which is neccessary for a perfect stage presence.
And I'm pretty sure, that within a couple of years or even sooner, he will be the next big thing in Blues Rock. It's only a question of time. Ryan does promise us in the end of the show, that he will be back soon. The small audiance is gratefull  and gives the wunderkind a hell of an applause. And that's a great start for a new selfconfidence. Hey watch out for his next longplayer... Time is running...
