For some time it really looked like, as this finnish rockband is next big thing on Rock'n'Roll Heaven, - the superstars from Suomi. But unfortunately things have developed in a little different direction, as we thought. Though a few years ago, they were hyped as 'the' Rockband from Scandinavia, nice to look at with their Glam outfits and explosive on stage like their idols Mötley Crüé and others. But the big break through never happened yet. Meanwhile Lovex have changed their looks a bit, maybe because they've grown up a little more within their 10 years of existence. 3 albums is the result so far, whereby 'Watch Out' just came out past spring. And this is indeed a very good record. But this and quality doesn't help, when the rest of the world doesn't honour it much enough. Maybe the other reason for this missing echo is the departure from EMI label in 2009. We will never know for sure. But one thing is for sure.despite an older age, Lovex still get hunted by all the girlies on this planet. Yeah well, maybe only in Finland and Germany in a small frame. And so the finnish quintet, who I've seen once before a few years ago, appear here in Munich in a rather intimate atmosphere within our Backstage Club, which is only half full. And that one includes aprox. 150 girls and maybe 10 guys, fans who are left from back then at a time where everybody thought, Lovex are gonna be the - Take That of Hard Rock.
But they didn't become those, and so they are moving along with thousand other bands within the Rock'n'Roll jungle.
If you listen to their current release 'Watch Out' a little closer, then you realize, that their music is actually quite good and suitable for dancing along with it. And thats why I'm curious to check 'em out again and answer the question, whether they can translate their music onto the stage.

The prologue is done by Superscar, a new young band, also coming out of Finland...or better from Helsinki.

I have to confess, I only caught up with them for the last 15 minutes, as I've been late once again. But this what Superscare are presenting us is rather softpop without real edges. Just imagine a peaceful little river seeking it's way through a flower field... well that sounds pretty pathetic. But the thought came to my mind first of all, when I arrive at the venue. And apart from the fact, that all bandmembers could easily be my kids, they do everything to put their charisma in front of all. And the do right. Because according to the age of the most female fans here, those are going for what the see more than for the music. And Superscar do get a pretty good reaction of all these Lovex admirers, which you can obviously hear clear and loud.

So put it that way, they made an effort to come across well in each way. But of course it is to realize, that there is still experience missing. That's why I won't judge those youngster too hard. Let's talk again in a few years... well when Superscar are still around - or not...?!

Lovex are far gone far beyond a beginner status....

And just to repeat myself, they have already 10 years of existence behind them, which they could have used much better then they've actually done. Their music contains a certain substance and some tracks are real smashers. The videos for those are highly professionell and the boys do look good as well. So what's the problem, the one who is handycaping the band from the big break through? We will never know exactly. But there is one aspect to feel, when watching them carefully. They can't manage to transfer their high energy Rock'n'Roll with the same power onto stage. There is not enough movement in the engine too less espirit and the sparkle is missing reigning on our heads...

I don't believe, that it's only the small stage, stopping them from moving to much or the weak acoustic in here or the small audiance. Though those girls in here are very happy to see their young idols here right now on stage. Some of them travelled half of Europe behind the band.
Thanks god, the lethargy doesn't last the whole evening and Lovex get better after a while, exspecially when they come to play 'Watch Out, followed by 'Bullet For The Pain' and U.S.A., which ends the official set.

No clue what the cause has been for the slow motion in the beginning. But towards the end, Lovex are able to prove, that they can be a good liveband if they want to. Well, as I said before, these finns are much more experienced than the supportact, but they are young as well, so there is still a huge potential hiding. They have just to throw it out.

I for my part can only say: pity, that songs such as  ‚Watch Out’ and U.S.A. don't get more noticed in the bright public eye.
I am dearly convinced, that if the band had the right, strong fist in their necks and a better promotion, then they could still go very far. Everything else is a lost chance.
