And again we got the slogan - every year again and again, but only hardly ever in Munich, - that's the Hamburg Blues Band, most of all - big boss Gert Lange. The reasons therefore are clear. Because our bavarian music lover ain't that familiar with the Blues. Shame, but that's the truth. And that's why only a few selected, advanced Friends of this musical style find their way to those events and know how to appreciate them.
And it is indeed thanks to Gert Lange's personal attitute not to neclect the bavarian captiol while touring down south, that now and then these still so underrated group from Hamburg plays our town. No matter, whether you like the Blues or not, but this band is just simply very good. The fact that the band always gets some other well known musicians of the elderly generation touring with them, is only the icing of the cake. So in the past, you could find names such as  Chris Farlow (Colloseum), Gary Wright, Mike Harrison (beide Spooky Tooth)  and Maggy Bell (Stone The Crows) on the touring list and as right now - Arthur Brown  (Crazy World Of Arthur Brown) who is mainly famous for 2 things. For once it's his voice, still reaching a range of over 3 octaves, and the other one is his one and only huge hitsingle 'Fire' from 1968. But this tune is glued to the sceleton of music history and is still timeless rockin' like hell, when played live. Just to mention on the edge, in 1997 Arthur re-recorded the track with german metalheads The Krupps. The videoclip to this version is almost as legendary as the song itselves and was pretty risky to film. Watch it below, and you know what I mean by that....

But back to the present and tonight, where the Hamburg Blues Band is finally back to Munich only playing a smaller club than elsewhere. Never mind, - as we say so: rather a small room well filled, than a huge venue half empty.

So our Choirboys here consists, apart from Gert Lange, also of Michael 'Bexi' Becker, who used to be in Lake, drummer Hans Wallbaum formerly with Westernhagen and Adrian Askew, also formerly with Lake, and last but not least - it's Clem Clempson (Ex-Humble Pie) And these musicians are train themselves throughout the first half of the set, starting off as always with 'Rockin' Chair' followed by 'Make My Day' and so on... putting one after the other pearl on the string.

The latest opus of the Hamburg Blues Band ain't that new anymore. The Baby was born back in 2008. And actually it's about time to chase another one through out the Hamburg' birth channel. On the other hand, this band has such a huge back cataloge, that their setlist seems like a colourful flower bunch made of rockin' bluesy  timels variety of melodies. And you could fill at least 150 issues of the Playboy... Well just kiddin' but it's all about good entertainment. And that's the music as well as the Playboy ain't it?! So what?

The second glimpse of the magic Hamburg Blues Band box is the already mentioned Wizzard of Oz, or better Mr.Arthur Brown, who shoots off  dressed in his mystic red and black Porter Porte and a very energetic 'Hard Rain'.

Young seventy years of age  the God Of Hellfire becomes this year, but neither his physical nor his mental condition has suffered so far, when you watch him performing on stage. And it's gotta be like that, otherwise he couldn't act like that. Yeah well maybe he's not that much moving anymore on Stage. But this could also be the tiny stage's fault, where it ain't possible too move around  too much anyway. If one thing hasn't changed, then it's Arthur's Triathlon trained vocal chords, which could easily win an Iron Man twice. But we are not on Big Island, Hawaii, we are still here at Munich's no. 1 Rockclub Garage. Arthur offers us a special version of 'I Put A Spell On You' - God bless Screaming Jay Hawkins.....

..and Peter Greens ‚Green Manalishi’ get an individual note as well. But that's how it should be anyway. Still goin for the ordinary missionary position is pretty boring - ain't it :-))) It's also a fact, that with each song he takes off some more clothes and even kisses the stage floor by stripping down. But well, if he does easier - and this without any Viagra - I bet! Well enough for a good photographic snapshot....

With ‚Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood’ we get another  Cover Version
of a classic written by Bennie Benjamin,
Gloria Caldwell and Sol Marcus for  Nine Simone .

What definately must not be missing - otherwise an Arthur Brown live appearance wouldn't be an Arthur Brown show including this neat little story in the beginning and exploding with the words:  ‚I Am the God Of Hellfire’ – ‚Fire’ –  and this of course in the extended version, as this is the orgasm of every Browni gig. Yesss it's chilling and some of us think: what would it be nice, if a normal orgasm would last as long as this here with more than 7 minutes...:-))))

The God Of Hellfire

It's pretty clear, that our oldies and even some youngsters  in the audiance are not satisfied with that is obvious. And our North-German Bluesmen  incl. the underworld fire magician are coming back for yet another encore including all positions of the south indian Kamasutra catalogue, so noone in here stays frigid. Theresa Orlowski would get greenish of jealousy, but she could never put up with out Hellfire St.Peter and his Chippendales.

Well done Boys from the Waterkant and though the Bavarians still ain't to close to the northern lights, we do hope, that it doesn't take too long for them to be back again. Not, that we forget how it works.... yeah well - I mean of course the Psycho Blues - what else?!!! :-))))
