I
can't tell you, how
often I've seen this band live on Stage so far. And to be honest, I
wouldn't want to anyway, as DAD belong to those acts, who are always
good again and all over again. It's as simple as that. It doesn't take
much longer, until this denish rockband celebrates their 30 th
anniversary. But despite of 3 decades, Jesper and Jakob Binzert and Stig
Pederson haven't changed at all or even got older. No they truly still
look the same like back then in the Eighties when they had their biggest
success with their third album 'No Fuel Left For The Pilgrim' in 1989.
And don't get them wrong, that this band still only tours the club scene.
In their home country and all of Scandinavia they are still filling
venues with soem thousands fans. Whereby the rest of the world is
dominated by this clubscene for DAD with a mere of aprox. 1.000 guests. Here in Munich we count about 700 souls tonight, who wants to rock along all over again to tunes such as ‚Everything Glows’, ‚My Point Of View’, ‚Monster Philosophy’ and ‚Evil Twins’. And in addition to that, the band brings along their new and 11th album named ‚Dic.Nii.Lan.Daft.Erd.Ark’, which they wanna promote with this tour. But first of all it's opener Cherries On A Blacklist's turn, which I do miss unfortunately, but be there for the second band straight coming out from Nuremberg namend Bullet Monks. This band also introduces their new album ‚Royal Flash On The Titanic’ which is the follow up to their debut ‚Weapons Of Mass Destruction’ from 2009. |
Let's put it that way, thanks to our
too much laid back Munich audiance the right mood doesn't show up in our
jodeling livingroom here. And this can do harm to the generell
impression. Shame, as these German's would deserve some more attention.
Even a small hint about soccer competition doesn't help. Well, Bullet
Monks still try their best to get at least a bit acceptance. But maybe
it just takes a little more time and patience and maybe a little more
selfconfidence, then it maybe will work out one day with the neighbours
in upper bavaria.... It’s Showtime for our pretty denisch boys, who are celebrating once again a great start here.... |
And
there are indeed some kids in here, who have never experienced DAD
before. Last time the band were here, they played the smaller hall next
door, but this time due a strong demand, the promoter has put them in
the biggest venue here on this areal. And it really does look pretty
well filled in here. DAD haven't changed a lot on their show. They are still working themselves professionally throughout their set, but put their focus this time on not that well known tunes. Whereby this again is pretty relativ. Because the true DAD fan knows every song of them. Only the new material of ‚Dic.Nii.Lan.Daft.Erd.Ark’ is not that familiar yet. But we still get satisfied and can dance along to the above mentioned tunes. Jesper Binzer takes his voice to the limit, which can't be ignored. Although this is not really a weak spot. Because DAD's music is made for vocal acrobatic saltos. |
Brother Jakob with his handsome Zylinder hat (mind me, he ain't bold yet) is showing his skills and doing his best with his great solos and a very serious face impression. Stig Pederson showing off his perfect body as usuall, but is almost in some sort of trance by playing his 2 string bass.Whereby I ask myself, why does this instrument originally have 4 strings, when two are doing their job as well? And it takes even more impression, when this bass is available in 4 varietys and 4 different shining colours including a rocket shaped bass, which Stig owns since way back... I remember fairly that this one was once sparkling with fire as well. But that's not the case anymore. Why? - Okay never mind.. Oh and before I forget, there is also drummer Laust Sonne, who is with the band for 13 years now and is the only one on board, not beeing an original |
At some point Jesper dares a step into the audiance, but not much further, as the local conditions don't allow this. Of some songs we do get the exented versions here, also some of it performed by Jesper without guitar, handling the vocals only. This goes down very well. But what am I talking here anyway.... A DAD Concert is always great....or better, I haven't seen a bad one so far.... And believe me, I have seen them very often before. Jespers
German
has gone a little better, but he still struggles with the articles. But
he does call us Ladies and Gentlemen, which doesn't really fit into here,
but never mind. (next time I'll get him a german dictionary :-))) -
though my denisch is surely much worse than his german. |
More than 2 hours the denish foursome is satisfying us with their monsterphilosophy and of course an encore including 'Sleeping My Day Away, and also some acoustic performance. The only track I do miss tonight is ‚I Won’t Cut My Hair’ usually a standard at DAD gigs. And I never get to hear my fave DAD tune, which is ‚Kiss Between The Legs’. But that was never a hitsingle or outstanding song, so what. Never mind, over all it's been once again a 2 hours great monologue of DAD - yeah well... as usually... PS.: And Hamlet would say: " there is nothing wrong in the state of Denmark, is there?!" http://www.d-a-d.dk/ |
