There is a feature in the new issue of german Metal Hammer, which is
written by one of my collegues and meets exactly the topic, fitting in
here at this live review. To catch up with a short over view, it's about
those mammuth tours - no, not because of too many dates or a too long
show, it's rather about the amound of participating bands. And this is
getting more and more.
Well, it's a matter of course, that
nowadays, where the music business is moving on a brickly wisdome tooth,
for promoter it's cheaper to send out 6 bands in a package on one tour,
than twice - 3 bands in two tours, where they have to book the venues
twice. On the other hand, or better for an exuse it is said, that using
the first oportunity gives unknown bands the chance to profile
themselves as openers in the shade of other wellknown acts. The question
is: is it worth it for them? First of all that means : pay to play for
those openers. And second - they often play in front of empty space
inside the hall. Because when featuring five or even six bands, most
common in the Heavy Metal genre, an early start is neccessary, to
squeeze the full schedule into one evening. So a 6 p.m. take off is not
unusual as in our case here. And it is indeed a lottery game, how many
fans have arrived that early for the very first band, as many of us
spare those out and are on the spot for the second chapter.
Even at only four groups, the average guest of such a concert is pretty
tired when the time has come for the headliner last but not least. And
many of this audiance just can't enjoy the top acts anymore a 100
percent.
And there is one more thing to be aware of. And that's the showtime of
the headliner which is often no more than one hour as well. Hmmmm - what
to think about that? You will never get to an alround satisfying
conclusion...
It's
been very well promoted - this Full of Hate tour 2012 including the
mighty Cannibal Corpse. And I can't avoid a slight smile, about
remembering this group around mastermind Alex Webster, who I've seen
already back in 1990 at a tiny club, I think it was London... - a time,
where this band were just about to make their firt footsteps in Europe,
led by leadsinger Chris Barnes.
No surprise, that over the years their albums often went on the index,
because as the band name says, their music and lyrics have never shown
any mercy. Although Cannibal Corpse has survived over all those years,
many of them in the underground. Let's face it, whatever Alex Webster
and Co. are doing here is... how shall I describe it best? - A Matter of
taste I would say. For some people this is the highest art of Death
Metal, for other's this is simply noise polution. And about their
philosophy you could easily write a docter's exame. The question is only,
whether that one gets accepted or not.
Anyway, this Full Of Hate Tour 2012 has got to offer more goodies as
well. And one of those comes out of Poland and is a true delight. Not so
much because of the music but rather due to the fact, that obviously
frontman Nergal has found his health again after a really bad illness,
though he still doesn't look a 100 percent healthy. But at least he
seems fit enough for this tour and takes the challenge. And so he is
welcomed everywhere with lots of warmness and heart by all metal fans.

In additon to that, we've got dutch metalheads
Legion of the Damned here, the group with the most hair, I'd say. What
Nergal is currently missing a little out of health reasons, Legion's
singer Maurice Swinkels, has got almost too much. Because his microphone
is fighting a constant battle finding it's way through the also constant
hair curtain in front of his nose.
Then we got Mysery Index from Baltimore, USA, who are celebrating thier
Death-Grindcore for 11 years now and who are related closely to the
group Dying Fetus. But I'm not telling you Die Hard Fans anything new by
that, I presume.

Sucidal Angels from Greece tell us kalimera as well, and those are not
that unknown either. And last but not least Nexus Inferis from Great
Britain are ringing the opening bells for this Heavy Metal Thunder. They
are here, because they have won the so called Rock The Nation Award
2011. The band has also just released their album 'A Vision Of The Final
Earth' in January. Reasons enough to jump on this tourtrek, though it's
only the opener role.
Well, that's the prologue for the Full Of Hate Tour 2012, whereby I
allowed myself to roll the dice the other way round, what's up to the
single band's participations. But same as all those acts have to play
shorter showtimes because of the limited time schedule on one evening, I
will also put things a little tighter together than normally. Over all,
I confess, I'm not neccessarely a specialist for Death, Grind and
Hardcore and other luvely sounds. But and that's the point, I' have
always been very open to all kind of music and don't deny anything
before I've even heard it. And the other thing is: every music has it's
right to be here - so what?
Though I have to confess, that I do belong to
those, who are not strike 6 p.m. at the spot, not because of ignorance
or so, but rather due to the fact, that six hours of this rather
exhausting music is just a little too much for an almost 50 year old
like me. But because I'm doing a photo job here, and as I said, I have
an open ear for everything, I arrive about 30 minutes later at our
cathedral here, just to realize, that opener Nexus Inferis has played
without me.

So
all I can say, is sorry about that. But I can see, that the place ain't
that empty as I feared at this early time. It is said, that this tour is
something special, so some friends of the grindcore culture have shown,
that they can be early birds, if they want to.
Nexus Inferis must have been happy with this, because they really need
some mor attention, otherwise, the victory at the Rock Nation Award from
last year would be easily forgotten soon.
Right, - not much more to say here about this band, but you do find more
infos about them on their my space site
http://www.myspace.com/nexusinferis
Suicidal Angels got imported by Hermes straight down from the Akropolis
in Athens.
