Slowly it is to realize, that the amound of Bluesrock guitarist increases, most of all what's up to their presence in Germany.
And as it currently seems, we've got almost every month one of those Wunderkinder playing here. Curiously they all are keen on the fact, that it is so wonderful playing over here, as the ground is so much better for their kind of musicians. But on the other hand we don't see it that way, as at such concerts there are most of the times no more than about 100 guests, exept your name is Joe Bonamassa or maybe Walter Trout. Mind me, Trout doesn't come to Munich for a few years now anymore. Well and there is this girl named Beth Hart, who is getting a bigger response lately, due to her cooperation with Bonamassa.
I could name you quite a few other artists, but wanna go only for one name here, and that is our star tonight at the Backstage Halle in Munich. Philip Sayce has been here several times before, but always played the tiny club at our Backstage area.
This time the promoter changed the location in the last minute - same house, bigger venue - the Halle, and put the other act supposed to be playing the Halle into the small club. And this move has been very wise, as the number of audiance Mr. Sayce counts here, lies by about 400. And this is a huge step upwards.

Philip Sayce owns a huge selfconfidence, and he knows about this. And if there weren't those typical Blues cords inbetween, you could easily think he's a hardrock musican and not a Bluesman.

He doesn't reveil his real age, but I guess he ain't older than about 30 or a little less. Sayce was born in Wales, Great Britain, but his parents immigrated with him to Canada, when he was only 2 years young. And it was them, who inspired him to the music. And so he started to learn the guitar and other instruments at a very young age. Aged 16 Philip started to play the Toronto clubscene on a regular base and built himself a solid fanbase up. In 1997 he became a member of the Jeff Healey band and toured with them around the Globe including the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival. Today he names Healey, who had died 4 years ago on cancer, as one of his biggest influences and names him his mentor.  At one point Sayce moved to Los Angeles to continue to make his dreams come true. And he got big goals.
Since 2009 he has released 4 albums. The latest output is entitled 'Steamroller' and has just come out. And that's what he is here for for yet another tour throughout Europe. Due to his patience and ambitions he actually could manage to increase his fanbase.
And now back again with an even larger audiance at 8 p.m. Philip Sayce starts his 2 hours show here in Munich.

Pretty quickly his multi sided talents becomes obvious, as he could also play in a heavy metal band. I could even imagine, that it is mayba a little to hard for some friends of true Blues music. But don't worry, he's got also a string of those slow motion pieces of music where you can feel the roots of Blues. Next to own songs, he pays tribute to Jeff Healey as usual in every show, and there is this rather sentimental tune he dedicates to his lady. He communicates with the audiance between the songs and even takes a long bath in the crowd, not stopping playing. And such a thing always goes well down.
Let's put it that way: this boy looks good, he's got aura, and he can definately play his guitar and sings well. He knows how to put himself into the right limelight and plays with his huge ego.

And actually this evening could be a perfect night out in every way.... but - it could, if there wouldn't be the huge amount of decibel coming out the boxes, reminding me rather on a jet airliner at take off. Halleluja, at such a loud level, every easter bunny would be handycaped, because his ears had fallen off. And when I as a photographer, who always stands front stage, says that my ears have hurt, then this means a lot. As this happens not very often. Shame as such a noise pollution can destroy even the best performance. And it's not the fault of the artist, don't get me wrong. It's the man's fault behind the buttons in the back of the venue , or in our case up on the balcony.
However, Philip Sayce does get a lot of applause despite this lack. And his ego even allows him to sign lots of autographs and take pictures with his admirers after show. Well someone must have told him, that doing such a thing, sells even more records and t-shirts.
That's it, and yet another huge guitar talent has left his impression here in Munich. For Philip it's been the third time now so gar. And I'm pretty sure, that he will be back - soon - very soon indeed....
