No, tonight there ain't no soccer or any other attractive event. But just as yesterday same place same time, there are only very few guests here at the Garage. Well mind me, yesterday at Kofi Baker's show you could really blame soccer for the lack of audiance, thanks to the champions ligue half time final between FC Bayern and Real Madrid, when most of Munich's inhabitants were glued to their tellys. Now one day later there ain't no excuse anymore of what so ever. And the only reason to name for a rather empty venue is, that the wide public just don't know the name of this artist yet, although his website says, that Neal Black belongs to the most innovative Blues musicians of the past 30 years. Well what so ever, but it's a fact, that unfortunately not many over here in Europe are aware of his existence exept maybe the hardcore Bluesfan circles. But as we say so, I belong to those people, who luv to see new things or artists I've never seen before live on Stage, as so many of them I've experienced already once too often, if you know what I mean by that. But this way, I get something new, and I would luv to get convinced, that tonight's musician is once again one of those, we call hidden treasures....

Maybe one of the reasons, why Neal Black has moved from Texas USA to the South of France a while ago is, that he recognized, that the true potential of Bluesmusic lies on the old continent  and not anymore there, where it had devolped it's roots many decades ago, roots which had evolved from Gospel music, which once had arrived from Africa the cradle of all mankind and also music. But enought of that, otherwise my review here would get a little too long, not focusing anymore on the subject, I intend to talk about it. And this is the live review of Neal Black's show here at Munich's Garage. It's a thursday night, and next door in front of the much larger Theaterfabrik venue some nightliners are parking, which belong to the Manic Street Preachers, who had already arrived for their show tomorrow night. For a second I thought about knocking on their bus doors to persuede them to pop over for tonight's Blues special. But the whole convoy rather gives me an impression - saying: don't disturb. So I better leave it alone.
So Neal Black & The Healers are starting their 2 parts - set at about 8.30 p.m. The mastro is accompanied by Kris Jeffersion on bass, Vincent Daune on Drums and Keyboarder Michael Tirilly, who actually does impress me a hell of lot during the gig.

The Healers do offer us a well mixed program throughtout the Neal Black discography and includes also some covers - for instance 'Who Do You Love' originally by Bo Diddley God bless him... and some Hendrix and other tunes. By the way, don't take this set list below for granted, as this is rather a song list, where the band chooses tracks to play each time in what ever order. To play all of them would probably take half of the night or even longer....

As Neal says in our little talk the setlist gets mixed differently in every show, just to keep it exiting. So there ain't no boredom in every set arrangement played with lots of groove and even more feelings. Anf of course we get some real great solos to hear, also by the other band members, which are pretty impressing and not too long, if you know what I mean by that.
The spirit of Robert Johnson lies in the air, combining with the memory of Mississippi John Hurt. And artists such as Neal Black do their best to keep this dejavu of past days alive so this music doesn't drown in the ocean of time and doesn't get forgotten. This fight - keeping the Blues alive is a constant battle as time goes by. Times are changing and also trends, styles and most of all generations... So good to have still musicians  to keep the Blues alive, though it's only on the edge of the soup bowl, as we say....
