For 16 year, Tito Larriva is crawling now acroos the european club landscape with his Tarantulas. And those do indeed invent themselves new all over - again and again. Whether this is good or bad for their carriere, you find a little further within this review.
It is a fact, that Tito keeps returning also to Munich every year, and every time with a new band line up. And Tito is still living from exactly 2 songs, those two hymns, which are featured in Robert Rodriguez cult movie 'From Dusk 'Till Dawn'. And this is 'Angry Cockroaches' and 'After Dark'. Whereby this musician has already released 5 studioalbums so far since back then. And those include some pretty interesting tunes. But not a single on of them has got to such a success, as those two just mentioned songs.Let's put it that way, you have to take Tito as a whole piece of art, and you have to be aware, that this is mainly him in first place, and then for a long time nothing... Somehow a pity, that he parted ways with orginal guitarist Peter Atanasoff in 2004 out of whatever for reasons. And since that point there seem to be some arguments about the name rights. So Tito now tours not only under the moniker 'Tito & Tarantula' but rather Tito Larriva & Tarantula'. And his band, who always owned one female member, is now, apart from him, a pure female group, exept one young boy, who seems to be always there, where he's is needed, whether it's on guitar or on the drumkit. The spot to play is once again our Backstage Halle here in Munich. But worries me, is the fact, that there are much less people in the audiance then last year. 2 years ago, he even played the bigger Backstage Werk and it was sold out. And last year it was at least this place here beeing sold out. No so tonight, where there is still enough space inbetween. And no it's no bank holiday season yet in Bavaria.

Starting off is the local formation - The Whiskey Foundation

To be honest, I have heard this name for the very first time and hopefully not for the last time... or am I wrong? Anyway, to my estonishment, this local Munich group turns out to be pretty interesting and good. They are going for a Sixties and Seventies Psychodelic Rock with a touch of Blues. The whole package reminds me strongly on the Doors meet Ten Years After, yeah well  just about... and they put a much more modern touch onto it. The band consists of Murat Kaydirma (Voc.), Julian Frohwein (Piano), Pascal Fischer (Git) Franz Klein (Bass) and Janis Gursky (Drums). In this constellation these guys are playing together since 2005 but have never got really noticed within a wider spectrum. In the fall the first album is supposed to be released. So it's about time to check this hidden treasure out. It is to watch tonight, that even Die Hard Tito Fans, including myself, are listening carefully to the performance of The Whiskey Foundation, and we do feel transfered back in time , but the on the other side not.

I for my part, can only advice you to check them out (at least those who are living in and around Munich) and convince yourself, that I'm right. All Infos and upcoming activities of The Whiskey Foundation can be found at:

Titos Tarantulas turn out to be Barbie Doll on guitar,  Vampirella on Bass uand one member of the  Adams Family on drums

Then there is a male allrounder, who, as I said before, seems to be here for helping out, when it's needed. And this is good so as it turns out during the show. Tito himself hasn't changed much, still the same - dark and in the beginning a little mystery. Whereby this again, might be caused by his dark sunshades. In normal day to day life tito rather is a cuddly teddy bear, who you just have to luv. That' how I know him now since back in 1997, when he came across for the very first time.
Let's put it that way: it is good, that Tito's music doesn't include any difficult cords, but rather simple tunes. Because I'm pretty sure, with more than that, these ladies here could get a little into trouble. The difficult parts are handled by Tito himself anyway. Apart from that it's a real nice outlook up onto stage.

Pinky on Drumkit is going for a break after a while, and our male allrounder is jumping in - from playing the guitar first and now the drums. And there where he stays 'till the encore. And his playing is a 100times more powerful and gives the show a hell of a lot more drive.

Tito is presenting us a more or less Best of... package, whereby there is nothing really new to it. Because he hasn't done a new album since 2008 and 'Back Into the Darkness'. Let's face it, - it would be about time for another vampire tooth ala Tito. On the other side he shares the same fade as many other artists, where the fans only wanna hear the big hits at shows, and nothing else. Nothing bad about this, but this is for Europe only as well... Back home in the US he's never been really accepted. And that's why he's not really present over there.

Unfortunately I can't avoid the slight feeling that tonight this is rather a must and not a wanna play for Tito. But thanks god, not many in here do notice this.....

Tito is working himself throughout his repertoir ongoing 'till his ace's 'Strange Face Of Love' and of course
 'Angy Cockroaches' within the encore.

uAnd last but not least there it is - his no. 1 parade song 'After Dark'. At this point he gets many fans up on stage to finish this evening with a grand final.

No clue why these two last songs, shown on the setliste ‚La Bamba’ und ‚Anarchia’  don't get performed anymore.
But whoever hasn't seen the setlist, doesn't miss 'em anyway.
Yeah well it's been okay for most of us, but Tito really should over think his band again to get a little more class into the musical performance. Because the visual aspect only, doesn't make it, does it? Exept maybe for the Backstreet Boys... And we don't wanna go down onto this niveau, do we?!

Please Tito – take a powerful bite next time again. It's simply  just not enough using only your own  vampire teeth with some sparkling tooth creme, if you know what I mean by that....
