What always wonders me again and all over again, is the fact, that there are american rockbands, who obviously perfer touring Europe, exspecially Germany. Because over here, we think, that America is a much better ground than it is here, but apparently it doesn't seem so. Anyway, not worth  to think about the reasons. There are only 2 explanations anyway. Either these artists just prefers touring Europe, or it is indeed the only chance to play live at all. You can twist and turn it round however you want. But one thing is for sure, Southern Rock doesn't necessarelly rule, - over here in first place. And such a tour can be expensive, - very expensive indeed. So that's why such a tour can be quite of a risk for a Band like Molly Hatchet, when they are back every two or three years. But until now, they've always pulled it through, though the places they are playing became smaller over the years and the audiance less. But of course their name is an institution in Southern Rock circles, though in generel these circles do become smaller over the years unfortunately due to a generation change..
Last summer we had Lynyrd Skynyrd here in Munich, who are sort of  the flagship within this musical style, but even those had pulled only about 2.500 people at our Zenith in Munich. However, -  they definately left a trace for those who have seen them there. Good for Molly Hatchet now, playing tonight at the Backstage Halle 6 months later... and some friends of Southern Rock have found their way again to such a concert, only the band is a different one.

First of all it's the New Roses, who are from somewhere along river Rhein here in Germany.

These, still pretty young guys named Tim, Urban, Stefan and Dizzy know each other for half of an eternity, as they say so. But they only recently started out the band New Roses. They are going to release an EP on Dec 21, the day, when the Maya calender tells us, the world will stop existing. A debutalbum, also including the Tom Petty cover 'Refugee' is scheduled for spring 2013.
To be honest, 'till this very evening, I haven't been even aware of the existence of this band. And I guess, I'm not the only one in here....

So, the first impression ain't a bad one indeed. And the New Roses deliver a truly solid Rock'n'Roll show. I'm really curious, whether we will hear more about them, exept from the EP and Alubm release. Further infos at:

After that, the Southern States flag gets risen up again and Molly Hatchet are concquering the stage here....

Some changes are shown in the line up again. And drummer Shawn Beaver has been replaced by Scott Graig (Ex-Blackfoot) Apart from that, there is still singer Phil McGormack, guitarist Dave Hlubek, the only left original member,
Keyboarder John Calvin (Danny Joe Brown Band), bassist Tim Lindsay (Rossington Band) and guitarist Bobby Ingram, who now is sort of the band boss in Molly Hatchet, though he's not an original either, but yeah well - almost...:-)
The band plays a truly decent show here, containing lots of their smash songs. But for me personally - unfortunately they never play any songs from my favorite album 'The Deed Is Done' - no clue why... but who cares...

And well, this should'nd be relevant for this live review. And though some of these Gentlemen have increased their bodyshape obviously, they give everything and take a sunbath in their own sweat. Halleluja, whatever this band is showing here what's up to stage posing, some young pretty Glam Metal band could learn off them. For our cameras this is very nice. Not so nice are the light conditions, which makes photographing become quite of a struggle.
Unfortunately no setlist glued to the stage floor, which I could show you in pictures here. But just to name a few pearls of Molly Hatchets song archives, they play ‚Whiskey Man’, ‚Bounty Hunter’, ‚Gator Country’, paying tribute to the Allman Brothers with ‚Dreams I’ll Never See' and not to forget the most important song 'Flirting With Desaster', which is never missing within a Molly Hatchet show.

The general impression is a clearly defined one - straight forward withouth edges and knots or any other rubbish and even with a little sex appeal in the back :-). And the most important thing is: the crowd really seems to like what they get offered here. What else do you want, exept the request, that the band will come back again soon. We hope so.... I really do hope so... Apart from that: the legend lives on...
