Well the band name means sort of not believing in anything group, at least when you translate it into german.Whereby I'm not quite sure, where it comes from. They come from Austin, Texas and are going for this so called Americana Sound, also described as Roots Rock. Whereby this is sort of a rather fine feeling, emotional kind of music with pretty intensive passages.
The band does exist since 2005. And since then, they have released three studioalbums and some live recordings and also underwent some line up changes. Currently the band is singer-guitarist Gordy Quist and also in the same position Ed Jurdi. And there is keyboardist Trevor Nealon and both newbe's bassist Ryan Bowman and drummer Richard Millsap. And they have been to Europe 3 times so far and have won a certain reputation yet. Insiders know, that this group consists of five excellent musicians, who are going for the fine art of perfection. Reason enough tho check 'em out, when the chance is given. And tonight it is - here in Munich at our Feierwerk venue. Despite heavy snowing, about 200 people have found their way to this club.

Let's put it that way, you've gotta see this band live on stage to realize their true quality around this somehow pecular, but also fascinating vibe. And that one starts off at about 8.30 p.m.  without support act. The music of Band of Heathens is like a slight air wave, non exiting but with a strong re call on the audiance.
Both frontmen Gordy Quist and Ed Jurdi are sharing the lead vocals. And each of them is bringing his personal note in every single tune. And despite the rather quiet atmosphere with only some exeptions, it never gets boring any minute. Also the rest of the band get their moments of self developement. The setlist is leadin us throughout the entire back cataloge, whereby it's songs like 'Golden Calw', 'LA County Blues' and 'Shake The Foundation' which get most stuck in my brain and therefore in my memory. ....And the fans here really seem to like this.

What I really do ask myself, is: why this band ain't no more well known yet with such a talent. They'd deserve this at least 10 times so far, if not even more often. But that again is the unfairness of a musician's existence, whereby the best of the best are often drowning in the jungle of the music industry, beeing damned to play mini clubs, while so called retorte babies get the icing of the cake, without having to do much for it.
On the other hand, it's not every day's evening yet. And the Band Of Heathens is still young and has just about begun to stretch out for the conquering of the globe. And whatever didn't happen yet, can still do sooner or later - no question about that.

In any case has this evening been a pearl with many average and even deaf nuts as we say so. And I haven't met anybody afterwards, who had been mourning or complaining about this here but only showing pure exitment. So whenever this band will be back to Europe is playing somewhere near your place, go and see them, and I will give you 100 percent guarantee, that you like it.
