1) Ein neues Album - Europa Tour-Termine. Um ganz sicher zu gehen, ist das Dein erstes Mal hier bei uns?
New Album – European show dates – I’m not sure, but is this the first time here in Europe within your long carriere?

Nein, vor ca. 25 Jahren war ich schon mal hier. Das ist sehr lange her. Ich habe diesmal eine tolle Band dabei und wir freuen uns sehr auf die Wiederkehr
I was there probably about 25 years ago. It’s been a really long time. I’ve got an amazing band coming with me, and we’re really looking forward to coming back.

2) Warum bist Du nicht schon früher gekommen?
Why didn’t you come earlier?

Das lag nicht daran, dass Wir Europa vernachlässigt hätten, im Gegenteil. Aber entweder war die Gelegenheit grad nicht da, oder wir haben die Gelegenheit verpasst, wenn eine solche sich zeigte.
It’s not for lack of wanting to go to Europe or tour internationally, we all love it! But an opportunity has not presented itself that made a lot of sense until now. When it did, we jumped at the chance to come play.

3)Es gibt bis jetzt nur einige Festival Termine. Gibt es eventuell in absehbarer Zeit auch eine volle Tournee?
There are only some festival dates scheduled. Will there be maybe a full tour as well sooner or later?

Wir spielen so viele Shows wie wir nur buchen konnten. Ich nehme an, die Leute haben noch nicht erkannt, was für eine gute Band da anmarschiert kommt, um Euch im Sturm zu erobern. Wenn Ihr das erstmal festgestellt habt, dann wollt Ihr uns sicherlich bald wieder hier haben. Ich für meinen Teil würde liebend gern öfters kommen, denn auch in Europa gibts eine Vergangenheit von mir. Und die würde ich gerne wiederbeleben.
We’re doing as many shows as we could book this time around! I guess people don’t realize what a great band I have and that we’re going to tear this place up! Once they realize that, I’m sure they’ll want us to come over more. I’d love to come over more, because we have a great history in Europe and I want to keep the relationship going strong.

4)Wenn Du zurück auf Deine Karriere schaust, gibt es viele gute Erinnerungen?
If you look back at your long carriere, are their great memories?

Gerade in letzter Zeit habe ich gedanklich oft zurück geschaut, da ich meine Autobiographie geschrieben habe. Und das war ein Achterbahn Trip. Es gab so viele Höhepunkte. Aber ich habe immer noch das Gefühl, dass ich hinter dem nächsten.. herjage.
I’ve been looking back a lot lately, as I’ve been writing my autobiography, and it’s been a rollercoaster ride. There have been a lot of high points, but I’m always looking forward towards the next one.

5) Lass mich andersrum fragen. Gab es mal irgendwas, was Du wirklich bereut hast?
Other way round – anything you ever regret musically?

Musikalisch? Nein, ich denke nicht.. Ich lerne eher aus meinen Fehlern, deshalb bereue ich auch nichts, sondern es lehrt mich etwas neues
Musically, I don’t think so. . . I’m always learning from the “mistakes” so it makes it hard to regret something that teaches you something else. . . other things perhaps. . .

6) Venus Overdrive kam sehr viel früher in den USA heraus. Warum dauerte es für den Europa Release so lange?
Venus Overdrive came out so much earlier in the US. Why did it take so long to come out in Europe? –

Das Album hat sich in Amerika sehr gut entwickelt. Und erst dann dachte ich, es wäre eine Europa VÖ wert. Ursprünglich fand es als Import kein so gutes Echo in Europa. Und als die Gelegenheit da war, hat sich das als gute Chance präsentiert, das Teil den Leuten hier noch näher zu bringen.
It did really well in the US and I thought it was worthy of an international release. It originally didn’t get much of a shot in Europe, and the opportunity presented itself to give it a really good chance.

7) Dann müssen die Songs auf dieser CD ja schon richtig alt auf Dich wirken...
These songs must seem rather old for you already. -

Ja, aber das ist okay! Ich habe die Venus In Overdrive Songs noch nicht so oft und viel wie meine älteren Stücke live gespielt. Deshalb fühlt sich alles noch relativ frisch an. Auch die Art und Weise wie wir touren macht sehr viel aus. Wir gehen einige Tage on The Road und dann wieder für einige Zeit nach Hause. Das lässt uns nicht so schnell ermüden. Und auch die Art der Interpretation, immer wieder an neuen Orten und vor anderen Fans, bringt die Abwechslung hinein. Das alles und die Energie und Aufregung macht immer noch viel Spaß.
Yep, but that’s OK! I haven’t played the Venus in Overdrive songs as much as the others, so they all stay a bit fresh. Also, the way we tour (going out a few days at a time and then home, then out again) keeps it all new and upbeat. It’s also always a different experience when you play them live because each show has new and different fans. Their interpretations of the songs, their energy and excitement really keep it all fun for me.

8) Gibts eigene Lieblingssongs auf dieser Scheibe, und warum?
Own fave song on this album – and why?

Zu dem Zeitpunkt, als ich die Tracks eingespielt habe, hatte ich sie schon etwas über, deshalb ist es schwierig einen Lieblingssong auszuwählen. Aber alle Songs auf Venus In Overdrive haben auf die eine oder andere Art eine spezielle Bedeutung für mich. Das ganze Album ist zu einer Zeit geschrieben worden, als mein Leben sehr intensiv war. So sind alle Nummern auf meiner Topliste. Und ich war höchstzufrieden mit dem Resultat.
By the time I’ve recorded them, I’m already pretty sick of them, so it’s always tough to pick a favourite! But on Venus in Overdrive, all the songs have some really special meaning to me and the whole album was written at an intense part of my life so they all are on my top list. Plus I really love the way this album turned out and was really happy with the results.

9) Warum wurd ausgerechnet 'Victorie's Secret' als Single ausgewäht. Und inwieweit unterstützt Dich das Radio Airplay?
Why did you choose ‘Victorias Secret’ as the single? And in how far do you think radio does still support your music?

Wir hatten den Eindruck, dass das der Song war, der die Leute am meisten ansprach. Wir spielten vielen Fans das ganze Album vor. Und zum Schluss waren wir uns einig, dass es eben dieser Song war. Ich denke, dass es sicherlich andere Medien gbit, die meine Musik mehr pushen, als Radio. Ich will damit nicht sagen, dass Radiostationen Musiker nicht supporten. Aber es kommt nicht mehr oft vor, dass Künstler richtig gefördert werden. Heutzutage unterliegt alles eher einem festgefahrenen Diktat.
It really seemed like the song that people would relate to the most! I think we played the whole album around with everyone, and we all agreed it was the one to go with. I think there are other places that are pushing new music (internet) more than radio. I’m not saying that it doesn’t support musicians, but rarely does it push any of the new music forward like it used to. It’s much more dictated.

10) So warum hat es so lange gedauert für ein komplett neues Studioalbum?
So what took so long for another album of originals?

Es gab so viele andere Dinge, die ich noch erledigen wollte. Als mein Bassist Matt Bissonette und ich anfingen an diesem Album zu schreiben, kamen wir erst im Verlaufe dessen, so richtig in Schwung. Es floss alles von ganz allein und hat viel Spaß gemacht. Es war eine Erfahrung, die ich seit den Achtzigern im Studio so nicht mehr erlebt habe.
I had a lot of other things I wanted to do! When my bass player, Matt Bissonette and I started to write for this album, we just really got on a roll. It all flowed so naturally and was so much fun. I hadn’t had an experience like that in the studio since back in the 80’s.

11) Und da gibt es noch ein neues Album 'My Precious Little One', das wir noch gar nicht kennen...
And what about that Album ‘My Precious Little One’, which we don’t know at all…

Ich fand durch Zufall ein Band mit Kinder-Schlafliedrn irgendwo in einer Schublade, dass ich vor langer Zeit mal aufgenommen hatte, um meinen beiden Jungs beim einschlafen zu helfen, als sie noch Babies waren. Sie schliefen damals sehr schlecht ein, und ich war damals in dieser Phase eines passionierten Vaters. Deshalb fand ich die Idee gut. Als ich es jetzt wieder raus zog und mir anhörte, da fand ich die Lieder wieder ganz gut und wollte sie mit allen teilen. Ich habe die Tracks kaum verändert, denn ich wollte sie so nahe wie möglich ans Orignal halten.
I found a tape of old original lullabies (way back in a drawer) that I had recorded to help my two boys go to sleep back when they were babies. They weren’t very good sleepers, and I was in the zone of new fatherhood so it seemed like a good idea. When I re-listened to them, I realized they held up pretty well, and thought it would be fun to share it with everyone. I didn’t change them much at all as I wanted to keep them as close to the originals as I could.

12)Hat sich Deine musikalische Vorgehensweise im Gegensatz zu früher verändert?
Is your musical approach nowadays different, then it was for instance in the early eighties?

Es verändert sich immer und ist doch immer die gleiche. Es hängt von der jeweiligen Situation ab. Liveshows sind da anders, weil ich mich mit den Fans assoziieren kann auf einem anderen Level. Aber die Fans haben sich auch nicht verändert. Die Energie ist immer noch die gleiche wie damals. Was das Songwriting und die Aufnahmen angehen - das hängt von den Songs ab.
It’s always changing and it’s the same. It honestly depends on each situation. The live shows are different because I can really connect with the fans on a different level, but they’re the same too because all the energy that was there in the 80’s is still there. Song writing and recording – well it just depends on the song!

13) Was ist Deine generelle Einstellung?
What about your generell attitude?

Ich schaue heute mehr auf die postive Seite des Lebens
I’m looking at the positive side of life these days.

14) Wie bist Du zu der Idee gekommen Deine Autobiographie zu schreiben? Und hattest Du einen Ghostwriter oder hast Du alles selbst geschrieben?
You were writing your autobiography. What gave you the idea to do so. And do you write it yourself or with some help?

Ich habe sie selbst und allein geschrieben. Es war etwas, das ich schon lange tun wollte. Jetzt war die Zeit dazu da. Sie heißt 'Late At Night' und kommt im nächsten Herbst heraus. Es ist alles von mir, und es gibt darin eine Menge Geschichten in denen ich auch nichts zurück halte. Und es ist alles die Wahrheit.
I am. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and really just decided now was the time to do it! It’s called Late, Late at Night and will be out in the fall of this year. I am writing it myself, and there are a lot of stories in there. I’m not holding anything back and I’m telling the truth.

15) Du hast auch viele Filme und Fernseh-Serien gedreht in Deinem Leben. Was war Deine pesönlichste Filmrolle?
You’ve done a lot of filming throughout your life? What was your own personal movie/TV series you filmed?

Die nächste, die ich jetzt spiele. Ich hatte eine tolle Zeit mit diesen Gastrollen in Showtime's Show und Californication. Ich spielen den Charakter von Rick Springfield, aber es war definitiv ein sehr gespaltenes Ich von mir. Spaß hat mir uach noch 'Dead Reckoning' gemacht. Tolle Leute - tolles Drehbuch und eine coole Örtlichkeit...
The next one I do! I had a great time doing the recent guest star part on Showtime’s show, Californication. I played a character called Rick Springfield, but he was definitely a twisted version of me. I also enjoyed 'Dead reckoning' a lot. Good people, good script, cool location

16) In Deiner Biographie im Internet steht, dass Du eine filmische Pause eingelegt hast zwischen 1999 - 2009 Und warum hast Du wieder angefangen?
In your biography on the net it shows, you apparently haven’t done any filmling between 1999 and 2009 How come? And what got you back into it?

Das stimmt nicht. Ich habe sogar sehr viel gemacht. Ich bin wieder bei General Hospital eingestiegen und habe für 2 Jahre wieder die Rolle des Dr.Noah Drake, und in Eli Love. Ich habe auch noch zwei TV Filme abgedreht und dann natürlich die komplette Californication Show.
Not true. I have done a lot since then. I actually went back to General Hospital for a couple years playing Dr. Noah Drake and Eli Love. I’ve done a couple made for TV movies too and then the whole Californication show.

17) Wie hast Du die Musik und das Filmen immer unter einen Hute gebracht?
How could you always cope with both music and film what’s up to time and scheduling?

Zeitmäßig ist alles möglich zu machen, besonders weil wir eben diese Art des Tourens mit der Band praktizieren, indem wir immer nur einige Tage unterwegs sind und nicht wochenlang an einem Stück. Und da kann man dann andere Termine rund herum legen.
Time wise we just make it work. The way we tour is we go out for a few days and home. We just try to make sure we can schedule around the other schedules.

18) Gibt es irgendetwas künstlerisches, das Du bislang noch nicht gemacht hast, aber es ein Wunschtraum von Dir wäre es zu tun? Ich meine, nach 15 Top 40 Hits und einem Grammy, gibts da überhaupt noch etwas?
Is there anything artistically, you haven’t done yet, but it’s like a little wish in your dreams to do one day? I mean, after 15 top 40 Hits and a grammy is there anything left?

Die Welt dominieren... Ich will nur weiter machen...
World domination. I just want to keep going.

19) Leider habe ich Dich niemals live auf der Bühne gesehen bis jetzt. Aber wenn Du jetzt dann zu uns kommst, wird sich Deine Show dann mehr auf das neue Album konzentrieren, oder eher ein Best of... Set beinhalten?
Unfortunately I’ve never seen you playing live on stage yet, but when you come over now to Europe, are you focusing on this latest release, or is this rather gonna be a greatest hits set ?

Es ist eine großartige Show mit viel Energie und Höhepunkten. Meine Band kicks as. Wir spielen einige Songs vom neuen Album, und natürlich jede Menge Hits. Es ist eine Kombination von beidem.
It’s an amazing show. Extremely high in excitement & energy. My band seriously kicks ass! We play some songs from the new album and a lot of hits too. It’s a combination of everything.

20) Was denkst Du generell über die momentane Musik - und Musikszene?
What do you think about music and musicscene in 2010 in generell?

Ach, es gibt jede Menge großartiger Musiker da draußen. Und wir alle ziehen immer noch unser Ding durch. So lange die Leute noch unsere Musik anhören, werden wir einen Weg finden, sie auch zu spielen.
There are a lot of great musicians out there and we’re all still doing our thing! As long as people still like listening to music, we will find a way to keep playing.

21) Gibts weitere Zukunftspläne, und so wie oben schon erwähnt, hoffentlich inkl. Europa?
Any more futureplans and as asked above – what about Europe?

Ich hoffe doch. Wir touren weiter und arbeiten bereits an einem neuen Album und haben keine Pläne Pause einzulgen. Ich habe eine ganze Liste von Dingen, die ich noch machen möchte. Also bin ich noch weit davon entfernt mich zur Ruhe zu setzen.
I hope so. We’ll continue to tour, and I’m working on another new album. No plans of slowing down any time soon. I have a list of things I want to accomplish, I’m no where close to being finished.

22) Auf Deiner Website war zu sehen, dass Dein Hund gerade verstorben ist. Was ist das für eine Erfahrung, und wie lange hattest Du ihn? Wirst Du Dir bald einen neuen Vierbeiner zulegen. (ich frage nur aus Eigeninteresse als Hundehalter)
On your website I saw, that your dog has gone. What kinda experience is this and how long did you have him? Are you gona have another one soon? – (just asking as I can feel with you – I got a beloved dog myself)

Ich wünschte, er hätte für immer da sein können. Ich vermisse ihn sehr. Aber ich weiß, dass er jetzt frei ist, und dass er sehr geliebt wurde, während er bei uns war. Es ging alles viel zu schnell. Ich habe noch keine Pläne mir einen neuen Hund zuzulgen. Aber ich wähle schließlich auch meine Hunde nich aus, sondern wir wählen einander aus.... so vermute ich, dass man niemals weiß wann das sein wird.
I wish he could have stayed forever, and I do miss him. I know he is free now, and that he was loved while he was here. It went so fast. I don’t have plans of getting another dog soon, but I don’t choose my dogs, we choose each other, so I guess you never know.

23) Wo denkst Du, wo Du in 10 Jahren angekommen sein wirst?
Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

Ich beantworte diese Frage in anderen Interviews immer wieder mit der Begründung, das es bedeutet, ich hab die vergangenen 10 Jahre immer das gemacht, dass ich gerne mache.
Still answering this question in some other interviews, because that would mean I’d made it another 10 years doing what I love!

24) Du machst auch bei diesen Rock - Kreuzfahrten mit? Das scheint immer populärer zu werden?
You’re doing these Rock cruise on sea as well. It seems, this becomes more and more popular?

Ja, wir segeln wieder im November von Miami aus. Und das ist jetzt dann die dritte Cruise. Es ist eine erstaunliche Fan Erfahrung. When ich ein Fan von jemanden wäre, würde ich auch an so einer Cruise teilnehmen. Ich bin dann die ganze Zeit anwesend, nicht so wie bei anderen Kreuzfahrten, wo die Promis kommen und wieder gehen. Nach zwei Veranstaltungen auf der letzten Cruise (mit ein paar Gläsern Wein zuviel) endete ich am Piano in der Bar. 1.100 Fans drängten sich dann in den Raum, in den eigentlich nur 200 rein passten. Es war Wahnsinn. We haben auf den Cruises auch eine Beach Party und gehen mit den Fans schwimmen. Es gibt viele Konzerte, Meet & Greets und Frage & Antwort Sessions etc. Ich bringe auch ein paar Freunde mit, und wir haben eine tolle Zeit.
YES! It sets sail in November out of Miami and this is the 3rd year we’ve done the cruise. It’s an amazing fan experience. If I was a fan of somebody, I would definitely do this cruise. I’m on it the whole time, not like some cruises where the celebrity comes and goes. After a couple events, (and having a few too many glasses of wine) I ended up at the piano bar taking over. 1100 fans crowded into this room that holds like 200 people. . . it’s amazing. We have a beach party and I go swimming with my fans, lots of concerts, meet & greets, question and answer sessions, etc. I bring some of my friends to help and we have a blast.

25) Ein Wunsch für die Zukunft?
What’s your wish for the future?

Ich hoffe, es wird eine geben - für alle von uns....
I suppose that there will be one. For all of us.
