MJ:      Ich freue mich wirklich darauf, wieder zurück auf Tour zu gehen. Es war jetzt eine ziemlich lange Unterbrechung und ich kann es kaum erwarten. Am 11. Juli – here we come.
I’m really looking forward to getting back on the road, it has been quite a long break now and I can’t wait to go. On July 11^th – here we come.

KR:     Es macht einfach Spaß, da draußen zu sein! Ich meine, wie könnte es das nicht! Du stehst da oben, die Leute wollen Dich sehen, es sind Tausende und alle warten nur darauf, eine fantastische Zeit zu haben!
It’s fun to be out there! I mean really, how could it not be! I mean, you’re up there, these these people want to see you, it’s thousands of them, all ready for a good time!

KR:     Ich habe die letzten Monate, nach dem Ganzen hier quasi rumgesessen und Däumchen gedreht! Ich meine, alle haben sich darum gekümmert, dass es mir wieder gut geht, aber eigentlich ging es mir sofort wieder gut, direkt nachdem ich das Krankenhaus verlassen hatte. Ich musste eher die anderen davon überzeugen, dass es mir wirklich gut geht! Aber man bleibt auch ein bisschen dabei, wenn man zum Beispiel gerade keine Lust hat, in einen bestimmten Raum zu gehen. Ich glaube, als  ich die Jungs bei der ersten Probe wieder gesehen habe, habe ich ein bisschen diese Rolle gespielt  … Ihr hättet die Palme sehen sollen auf den Fijies. Die war grade mal 5.5 feet hoch. Das glaubt dir keiner.... ha ha....
I have spend the last months, after all of this , basically twiddeling thumbs, making, I mean other people try to make sure, that I am OK. The        minute, I got out of the hospital I already felt OK, it’s more convincing everybody    else, that I am OK, in a way. It sticks, when I’m moody to walk into a room. In  fact, when I got to see the guys at the first rehearsal, I thought that I’ll play that one…You should have seen the palmtree on the Fijies. It was'nt even 5.5 feet high, unbelievable.... ha ha....

MJ:      Naja, wir hatten ja auch schon vorher mal einige Unfälle auf Tour. Als Keith von der Leiter gefallen war, das war glaube ich das letzte Mal. Und dann… aber das hier war schon ziemlich zeitaufwändig. Man hängt dann gefühlsmäßig mit drin und sagt sich, solange man weiß, dass man einen neuen Plan machen kann, ähm, das Problem war eigentlich, dass wir zuerst nicht wussten, wie lange es dauern wird, das war das Schwierige daran. Und dann natürlich andererseits war es das Jonglieren mit den Konzertterminen. Für mich und unseren Tourmanager war es wirklich, wirklich schwer zu entscheiden, welche Konzerte…. Wir hatten ja letztendlich fünfzehn Konzerte am Anfang der Tour, die wir verpasst hatten. Wir mussten also sehr genau überlegen, OK, wo fangen wir an, welche Termine können wir lassen und welche nicht…. Und das war wirklich nicht einfach. Aus Millionen verschiedener Gründe.
Well, we have had accidents on the road before with people. Keith fell of a ladder I think was the last one. And then… but this is quite a long one. So you just feel    about it and say, as long as you know, that you can replan it, ähm, the problem was when we didn’t know, how long this is going to be, that was the difficult thing. And     then of course the other part was juggeling the gigs. And so, for the tourdirector and myself, it was really, really difficult to figure out, which ones we were gonna, because we had fifteen gigs, which we missed out of the tour, so we had to figure out, OK, so where are we going to start, which ones do we leave and which ones not, so… and it wasn’t that easy to do. For millions of different reasons.

KR:     Wenn man eine Tour wie diese plant – und dann passiert so etwas dummes wie mit mir, dass das Ganze unterbricht. Vor allem ja nicht nur unseren Zeitplan, sondern auch den von allen anderen, all die Leute, die die Stones an einem bestimmten Termin sehen wollten… Und das ist im Prinzip der wichtigste Grund, der mich da wieder rauszieht!
When you set up a tour it’s like this, I mean, some things like stupid, like me, happen to interrupt. Not only our schedule, but everybody elses, who were expecting to see the Stones, at a certain time and so… the only drag to me is that!

MJ:      Am 11. Juli in Mailand, das ist der Tourstart und dann läuft die Tour bis Ende August, das sollte kein Problem sein und ich freue mich schon sehr darauf.
11^th of July Milan, that’s the start and then to the end of August, so it should be a laugh, and I am really looking forward to it. 

MJ:      Wir haben schon auf der letzten Tour dort gespielt, es ist ein tolles Fußballstadion. Es ist auch toll fürs Publikum, es ist wirklich ein schönes Stadion. Ich freue mich wirklich sehr darauf, dort die Tour beginnen zu lassen, es wird bestimmt ein tolles Konzert.
Actually, we played there last time, it is a great football stadium. It’s very good for   crowds, it’s a good place. I am really looking forward to starting there, it should be a great gig.

KR:     Wir haben schon oft dort gespielt. Es wird bestimmt interessant, diesmal hier den Tourstart zu haben. Mailand ist eine einzigartige Stadt, eigentlich sind alle italienischen Städte…. Na ja, sie haben alle ihren ganz eigenen Charakter. Und Mailand… Da oben im Norden ist es eher so, dass man auch genau so gut in Österreich oder Deutschland sein könnte, auf eine bestimmte Art und Weise. Es sind die Norditaliener, ich meine, wir spielen dann ja nicht in Kalabrien! Aber die Stimmung war immer gut, wir hatten immer sehr viel Spaß dort und wenn wir jetzt die Tour dort beginnen lassen – großartig!
We haven’t played there very often. It’ll be interesting to start this one off there, but Milan is a unique city, actually, all the Italian cities they’re all… they all have their own flavour. But Milan is…, being up the North there, is more you could be playing Austria or Germany in a way. You know, it’s the northern Italians, I mean, you’re not playing Calabria! But it’s always been a vibe, it’s always been great fun there and if that’s to be the first kick-off now: great!

KR:     Wir fühlten uns super! Wir hatten den Asien-Teil unserer Tour hinter uns, und das letzte Konzert war in Wellington, Neuseeland und natürlich, dass müsst ihr mir glauben, wollten wir nur eine kurze Pause machen! Andererseits glaube ich, wir hatten ja alle sehr schwer gearbeitet und ich glaube alle, auch die Crew und alle anderen, die mit uns arbeiten, waren nicht so sehr traurig über eine etwas längere Pause, solange wir wieder voll loslegen können, wenn wir wieder unterwegs sind.
We were feeling great. We had finished the far Eastern leg, we finished in Wellington, New Zeeland of course, trust me, to break the momentum. But at the same time, I think everybody, I mean, we have been working pretty hard and I think everybody, including the crew, and everybody else with us, doesn’t really mind the extra few weeks off, as long as we can pick up the slack, as we go along.

MJ:      Wir werden uns ein paar Sachen ausdenken. Ich meine, wir haben ja ausreichend Songs, aus denen wir wählen können. Wir werden uns also eine Setlist zusammenstellen und vielleicht bei den ersten fünf, sechs oder sieben Konzerten das eine oder andere noch verändern, je nachdem, wie die einzelnen Teile des Konzertes beim Publikum ankommen.
We’ll work out some material to do. I mean, we’ve got a lot of different songs, that we can pick upon. So we’ll come up with a setlist and maybe change the first five, six, seven days with trying around, which ones work and which ones don’t.

KR:     Mick und ich haben beide gesagt, dass wir das Programm ein bisschen umstellen müssen, wenn wir nach Europa kommen. Es weiß zwar noch keiner so genau, wie diese Umstellung aussehen wird , aber ich denke, vielleicht ein paar neue Nummern, von unserem neusten Album. So oder so – eine Rolling Stones Show ist immer eine Rolling Stones Show! Ich meine, wir werden alles da haben, die ganze Stimmung und alles andere….
Mick and I, we both said, that when we get to Europe, we should change the shape of it slightly. Now nobody knows quite the change of the shape , but I think maybe a couple of more new numbers, from the newer album, ähm, otherwise, I mean really, basically, a Rolling Stones show is a Rolling Stones show. I mean, it’s all gonna be there, I mean, all the faiths and so….

KR:     Wenn man da oben steht und immer wieder den selben Song spielt, sagen alle immer: Oh, der muss denen doch zum Hals raushängen. Falsch! Es ist eher so, dass man immer wieder etwas entdeckt. Ein Song hört nicht in dem Moment auf, an dem man ihn geschrieben hat. Er hört erst dann auf, wenn man ihn nicht mehr spielt.
When you’re out there playing the same song, everybody goes Oh, they have been doing this for so long, they must be sick to death of it. Untrue! It’s actually, that you are still discovering. A song doesn’t just stop when you wrote it, it’ll only stop, when you stop playing it.

MJ:      Das Konzert in Wembley hat nie stattgefunden. Ich habe keine Ahnung, wann das erste Konzert in Wembley jemals stattfinden wird. Was wirklich sehr schade ist. Wir hatten uns wirklich schon sehr darauf gefreut, dort zu spielen. Vor Jahren flog ich mal mit dem Helikopter drüber hinweg, wir kamen gerade von irgendwoher zurück, und da habe ich gesehen, dass die Bögen schon gebaut waren. Das ist schon wirklich lange her , wirklich sehr lange her. Und der Pilot sagte: Guck mal, da sind die Bögen vom neuen Wembley Stadion. Wie auch immer, es ist immer noch nicht fertig gebaut aber ich bin mir sicher, dass sie irgendwann fertig sein werden und dann wird es sehr schön sein, dort zu spielen. Naja, aber jetzt spielen wir in Twickenham, Twickenham ist auch ein sehr schönes Stadion. Irgendwie mag es jeder und ich finde, es ist etwas konzentrierter als im alten Wembley Stadion. Das alte Wembley Stadion hatte einen schönen Charakter, wirklich einen ganz besonderen Charakter. Aber das Twickenham Stadion ist etwas mehr gebogen und deshalb ist es auch sehr schön, dort zu spielen. Ich freue mich sehr auf die beiden Konzerte dort. Früher haben wir nebenan auf dem Richmond Athletic Ground gespielt und im alten Station Hotel, daher, ja, fühlt es sich sehr nach zu Hause an. Ich glaube bei Charlie, er kommt ja aus Wembley, also für ihn ist das quasi sein Wohnzimmer . Aber wie auch immer, ich glaube, die Shows werden toll und wir spielen ja auch noch andere Konzerte in England, in Sheffield und oben in Schottland, in Glasgow und wir spielen in Wales, Cardiff und so weiter…
The Wembley thing never happened. I don’t know when the first gig in Wembley is gonna be. Which is sad, really, you know. We were really looking forward to be playing. Years ago, I did a helicopter trip, I was coming back from somewhere, and I saw the arches where up already, which is a long time ago , this is really a long time ago. And the pilot said: There’s the arches of the new Wembley stadium, and I said Great. But anyway, still not ready but I’m sure it will be ready one day and it will be lovely to play. But anyway, we’re back to Twickenham, Twickenham is a really good stadium and it’s the first time we played in Twickenham. But everybody seems to like it and I think it’s more concentrated than old Wembley was. The old Wembley had it’s nice feel, you know, it had a nice feel. But the Twickenham one has a bit more of a bow, and so it’s nice to play. I am really looking forward to be playing these two shows there. We used to play next door at the Richmond Athletic Ground and we used to play at the Station Hotel so yeah, it feels very home and alike. Charlie, I guess, because Charlie comes from Wembley, so Wembley for him is like (lacht) his home. But, no, I think these gigs are going to be great and we are playing some other gigs in England, too, like Sheffield and up Scottland, Glasgow and we are playing Wales and Cardiff….

MJ:      Eine der verrückten Sachen, die wir gemacht haben war, beim Super Bowl zu spielen, das war ziemlich verrückt. Wenn man jemandem erzählt, dass man beim Super Bowl spielen wird, na ja, ich weiß nicht, für die Amerikaner ist das ein Riesending und man ist ein Teil davon und dann ist das auch sehr aufregend. Und wenn man dann da ist, ist es wirklich eine komische kleine Sache, die Bühne muss ja innerhalb von nur vier Minuten aufgebaut sein. Und das ist wirklich abgedreht, aber es hat auch irgendwie so einen Amateur-Charme.…
One of the mad things we did was the Super Bowl, that was pretty mad. When you’re saying, you’re playing Super Bowl, everyone’s sooo…., I don’t know, for them it’s such an excitement event and you’re part of it and it becomes like a big thing. And when you actually come down to it, it’s this little griddy thing, they have to assamble the stage in like 4 minutes. And it’s really manic, but it’s got this sort of charming amateurism as well…

KR:     Naja, es ist ja kein richtiges Konzert. Ich meine, Du hast nur drei Stücke und die gehen so schnell vorbei , also gibst Du das Beste, was Du kannst. Es hat schon Spaß gemacht!
Well, it’s not a real gig. I mean, you got three numbers, so it is like once so you give it the best you got. It was fun to do.

MJ:      In Rio am Strand. Ich hatte gegenüber ein Zimmer, mein Balkon lag gegenüber der Bühne. Ich konnte also genau auf die Bühne gucken – na ja, so eine tolle Bühne war das nicht . Es war wirklich nicht meine großartigste Bühne, weil wir direkt am Strand gespielt haben und da kann man nicht so viel aufbauen, das würde ja im Sand versinken und so. Und alle haben mir gesagt: Oh, da kommen eine Millionen Menschen… Aber so um sechs oder sieben, da war fast noch überhaupt keiner da! Da kam ein Bericht auf BBC und die sagten, dass tausende Fans schon draußen gecampt hatten und ich sagte: So ein Quatsch, es ist fast überhaupt keiner da, ich hab aus dem Fenster geguckt und da war niemand! Und schon gar nicht Tausende, die über Nacht draußen gecampt haben – da ist keiner!  Aber dann gegen Acht, da waren eine Millionen Leute da.
In Rio at the beach. I had a room opposite. My balcony was opposite of the stage. I was looking right at the stage – however it wasn’t really much of a stage  first day. It was not one of my best stages, because we played on the beach so you can’t really have much, because it’s gonna sink in the sand and so, you know. And everybody was saying, oh, there’s gonna be like a million people and so… And then about six or seven o’clock, there was almost no-one there, there was this news on BBC saying: Thousands of people have camped out! And I said: There’s nearly no-one, I looked out of my window and there is nobody there at all! Let alone thousands of people camped out – there’s nobody!  But then by eight o’clock, there were about a million people on the beach.

KR:     Man konnte das ganze Publikum überhaupt nicht überblicken. Der Strand machte einen Bogen und sie standen auch auf dem Hügel und einige waren sogar draußen auf Booten. Aber man kann eigentlich nur für die Leute spielen, die man sieht. Ich meine, man weiß zwar, dass sie alle da draußen sind und man kann nur hoffen, dass sie den Drift mitkriegen. Aber man muss sich auf die konzentrieren, die man sieht und unter dem Aspekt war Rio schon Furcht einflößend, weil man genau wusste, dass man eigentlich nur für knapp ein Drittel der Leute spielt, die tatsächlich da waren.
You could not see the whole audience, they in fact went round the bay and up the hill and some of them were out in boats. But you can only play to the people that you can see. I mean, you know there are out there and you are hoping that they are getting some drift out of this, and then it’s happening. But you can really only work to the people that you actually can see and in that respect, Rio was awesome, because you realize that you actually play to maybe a third of the people that were actually there.

KR:     Solange wir alle zusammen spielen, werden wir immer besser werden! Es ist mir völlig egal, wie alt ich bin . Vielleicht geht es auch nur mir so, weil ich es einfach liebe, mit den Jungs zusammen zu spielen. Wenn man einen Drummer wie Charlie Watts hat, den will man ja wohl nicht rausschmeißen  oder? Ich meine, niemals! Da würde man eher selbst zuerst aussteigen. Und es ist mir eine Ehre, mit solchen Jungs zu spielen, die absolute superb sind. Und wir haben das Gefühl, dass wir immer noch lernen - wie wir es besser machen können, wie wir es noch besser rüberbringen können und wie wir dabei immer noch Spaß haben können!
As long as we all play together, the better we’ll get! I don’t care how old I am . It might just be me in person, because I just love to play with these guys. If you got a drummer like Charlie Watts, you don’t want to drop him  you know. I mean, no way! You’d rather drop first. And it’s been my pleasure to play with a bunch of guys  that are absolutely superb and that we all still feel we are learning our stuff, how to make it better, how to present it better and how to still have fun doing it!
