"Yeah, we are playing
Heavy Metal Music, but we are definately no Heavy Metal ourselves".
And only for this statement tonight aftershow, I luv you - Hansi Kürsch.
No seriously, everything what's heavy metal about the boys, apart from
the music, is maybe the long hair. That's it about. Musically the band
hasn't changed and sticks to their style. (another clichee slogan, ain't
it?!) Though the new single has got a huge commercial potential and it
sticks in your ear. A so called earworm, as we say so over here. But on
the other hand, it's too hard for that.
Actually it is always said, you've got to live things to transmit them
the right way.
Not so Blind Guardian. They
really understand to live in two worlds - the one on stage and the one
off stage, and demonstrate in a very realistic way the one or the other.
Yes, they are sort on an exception without negative aspects within this
genre. And they are an exception once again here in Munich.
Just to repeat myself again and again, but Munich has never been a great
place for this kinda music. And usually for an average band there are
aprox. 300 - 500 fans showing up or even less.
And again... not
with Blind Guardian. The venue is packed 'till the last little corner with
fans from every part of Munich and the counties around . So please do not
say anymore there are not enough Hardrock freaks around in our area. There
are, but the question is - the innovation and what gets the people outta
there holes?! Maybe it's because this band only shows up every 3 or
4 years, compared to artists who think they have to prove their presence
every year at least 3 times. - And that's why fans of Blind Guardian are
hungry again for their band. It's like everything in life, whatever you
got too much of something - gets boring after a while.
Of course it's mainly the music beeing responsible for the affection and
the popularity. But maybe it's also the way, this german group sell their
stuff, - neatly, with a lot of understatement and totally
uncomplicated and a big show. The slogan is: let the music do the talking
and the generell vibe. The music carries itselves with much intellectual
bombast with a slight melancholic touch, which is on the other
hand carried by a powerful beat.
The only little weak point is a little monotony after a while. But this is
only my personal impression. I miss a little the so called edges and
breaks, which keep me normally a 100% concentrated. Maybe it's also
because I've seen 'em too often in the past. But as I said, it seems, it's
only me feeling like this, 'cause everbody else in here is freaking out.
And that's important, nothing else. I won't mention the usual bad sound
conditions in this room anymore, because we are used to it, and this is
nothing special anymore. If once there was a brilliant clear sound, it
would be rather surprising and outstanding.
To get it short, Blind Guardian once again have shot a goal here in Munich,
musically and visually including the generell vibe and most of all the
statement: "We are no Heavy Metal". - No you're not , but only
lovable, still youthful teddybears, who underline their individual point
of view only with their music, with nothing else. And that one is no heav.......
Okay forget it.....
just listen to the music and forget the rest….
