I've had had a few reviews already about our ancient rockband  once here in munich at a very short stint during daytime and once  here  at the
famous Kaltenberg knightsgames in Bavaria, where Corvus Corax are the so called house band for the musical frame for all this happening there.
But tonight is the first time I see this band in a full concert. They do not have a supportact but rather go on stage early and play two sets instead. This is okay, 'cause that kind of group does certainly not need a support. At exact eight o'clock we turn time back for 800 years. And with the tune of a bell, our paradisebirds come on stage carrying some exotic looking instruments with them. But these are only normal instruments of the middle age, like the good old backpipe, a so called Schalmei and a big drum. To be honest, I do not remember all those names. But after the gig I get told about the building of these things, which the musicians do by themselves.

Yes, of course you've gotta have a certain love for this kind of entertainment. And a concert of Corvus Corax (latin name for raven) has got absolutely nothing to do with the usual rock'n'roll concerts. It starts with the backpipe, which is not everybody's taste. And it does not come off from scotland, as you might have thought so. But apparently the Germans invented this instrument. That's what Castus is telling us inbetween the music. But it's the drums, leading the performance beeing played with a triple echo. The lovely melodies of the ancient times, or better the dark middleage blow up to anoverdimensional sound volume, played by those Berlin musicians with a whole lotta passion. And the aprox. 1.000 souls here swing their dancing leg with much enthusiasm.

What I personally do like most on them compared to other groups of that kind, is the fact, that Corvus Corax really play only with those ancient instruments music of the middle age and not mixed with modern tunes. Only the fancy clothes do not go hand in hand exactly with the 1oth or 12th century. That's why I named them paradisebirds in the beginning of this review. I presume, they didn't know dreadlocks then, or did they?! However, it's nice to look at and it's a real challenge for the female eye as well. The band is encouraging us to sing along with, one time all the women, and the other time - all the men in here. And yes of course we smeter along with. Only the request to get rid of our clothes to feel more free, we ignore. It's 'Venus Vina Musica', which is dominating the performance. And of course you can buy the new CD in the back in the left corner.
Yep, it's great,- once again. And the Heavy Metal of the middle age, like I use to name it, has got us all under it's spell - straight forward to the past. Let's hope, that the raven is calling again with it's lovely tunes. In Sanktus, spiritus, nominee padre - fidibus - and oh jes.... just forget it......
