197

Many of you do not know this band anymore. But these welsh progressive rockers are going since 1968, and they have released countless albums with some remarkable songs. Whereby the most noticable track is surely 'Erotica' from 1969, which includes the noise of an orgasm. For that time it had been a real scandal indeed. Though the sexual revolution has only just started. Founded by Micky Jones: Guitar, Vocals , Clive John: Keyboards, Ray Williams: Bass und Jeff Jones: Drums this group has had probably more line up changes than any other group. Today there is none of the founder members with 'em anymore. Only Martin Ace, who came into the band after their second album in the early seventies and nowadays almost seems like an original for beeing so long part of the MAN. He now brought in his 18 year old son Jos, who seems to be a pretty hopefull talent. George Jones is with them as well. He is the son of founder member Micky Jones, who is currently very ill and trys to recover in a nursery home. And last but not least there is drummer Bob Richards, who shares this job here with some others, for instance in 'Shy'.
So finally you could call MAN 2007 almost as a complete new band, rosen up as a new generation who took over the heritage of their parents.

I've seen Man twice before in the past, - in the late eighties and early nineties. And they still sound pretty much the same. Complicated sound structures go hand in hand with nice beats, which animates us to dance along. Everyone in the group takes the frontrole for one or the other time. And there is only one weak point to complain about. It is much too loud and the whole Village club is shaking. That's simply too much, and some guests of the aprox. 80 people  leaves the room for a while to recover their ears. Next to some classic tunes, also the current release 'Diamonds And Coal' from last year is going to be introduced with a hint to the merchstand outside. Over all musically definately not bad at all, but somehow something is missing. Maybe that's only because of the location, where the impression of this kinda rockmusic doesn't really spread along. Who knows. And one more thing, I personally miss. And that's at least one song from my favorite MAN album 'The Twang Dynasty'. Probably they don't play some, because this record is the most unusal one of the band. Shame, but it's probably only me, missing out on that one.
Showtime is about 90 minutes. Unfortunately I can't make out a setlist, sorry about that!
In the end it's been a decent solid much too loud rock gig of this 25th or so - edition of the MAN
