| Fest steht, das
Ganze hat mehr Pfeffer als im vergangenen Jahr. Und das rührt nicht nur
den damaligen leicht angeknacksten Auftritt von Roger Daltrey her, sondern
lag eher an den eingeschränkten visuellen Aspekten, sowie der Produktion
insgesamt. Man hat sich jedenfalls besonnen, diese wieder gehörig auf zu
pushen. Denn bekanntlich isst das Auge mit. Orchester, Dirigent und Chor
sind ohnehin immer die selben. Und die Verquickung klassischer und
moderner Elemente wird wieder einmal zelebriert. Ein noch souveränerer
Markus Othmer unterzieht sich gleich zu Beginn einer Nassrasur durch Tenor
Tony Henry, der dabei passend Mozarts Figaro schmettert. Eine
humoristische Einlage, die beim Publikum besonders gut ankommt. Und klar
doch, so frisch rasiert, moderiert es sich um so schwungvoller. One thing is for sure. This year's Nokia Night has got a lot more pepper in the ass than last year. And that's not only because of the weak appearance of Roger Daltrey, but rather to the less visual aspect and the lack of production. They obviously thought about it and pushed it up a lot this year. As you know, it's not only the ear but also the eye. Orchestra, and quire is always the same as well as the mixture strategy of classic and modern music. And an even more selfconfident host Markus Othmer goes for a wet shave in the beginning, done by opera tenor Tony Henry, who starts off with Mozart's Figaro. A well done humor stint, which goes well down at the audiance. |

Ike &
Tina Tu...... nein, nicht doch. Das hier ist die blutjunge Lyrica
Garrett, die dem, inzwischen 75jährigen Ike gesanglich zur Seite steht.
Die ersten Strophen zwitschert Ike noch selbst. Aber ehrlich gestanden,
so 100%ig ist das nicht das Wahre, während Lyrica einer Tina von anno
dazumal in rein gar nichts nachsteht. Fast könnte man meinen, die Diva
hätte sich selbst durch eine magische Verwandlung verjüngt. Wie auch
immer, Ike braucht den jugendlichen Gegenpol on stage, um selbst wieder
up to date zu wirken. Immerhin, die 75 Lenze gibt man ihm jedenfalls
noch nicht. Und Sohnemann Ike jun. sorgt dafür, dass Daddy schön auf
Achse bleibt. |

selbst war jetzt insgesamt 4x in 4 Jahren bei den Night of The
Proms. Und wenn sich etwas nicht verändert hat, dann ist es John Miles
alljährliches Intermezzo 'Music' Immer gleich, immer gleich gut, und
immer das selbe. 'Music was my first Love.... usw usw....'
Der Meistro ist festgenagelt an diesen einen Welthit, und sein Name wird
unweigerlich sofort mit diesem Song assoziiert. Und er gehört zum
Standard-Dauer Establishement von den Nokia Nights.... I by myself have been four times in four years to the Nokia Nights. And if there is one thing which has never changed and always stayed the same, then it is John Miles and his one and only hymn 'Music'. Always great, always good, and aways the same. 'Music was my first love... etc etc...' He is stuck to this song, a world class hitsingle from 1976. And the artists name is immidiately associated with this piece of music. John always belongs to the traditional establishment of the Nokias - every year again. |

| Was ihn
wirklich dazu bewogen hat, wieder in die Öffentlichkeit zu treten,
weiß noch keiner so recht. Nach ganzen sieben Jahren der Abstinenz ist
Mike Oldfield back again an der Oberfläche. Es gibt kein neues Album zu
promoten oder eine eventuelle bevorstehende Tournee. Aber da steht er
nun, wie früher, hochkonzentriert, und augenscheinlich nicht ganz mit
dem Sound zufrieden und noch weniger mit seinen fünf Gitarren. 'Tubular
Bells' bestimmt seinen ersten Stint an jedem dieser Nokia Nights, die
Hymne mit der vor vielen Jahren seinen Durchbruch hatte. Oldfield wirkt
eher verhalten, introvertiert, und nur ein - oder zwei Mal kann er sich
zu einem leichten Smile in Richtung Publikum aufraffen. - Singen kann er
noch immer nicht und hat es deshalb klugerweise auch nie angefangen.
Er ist und bleibt der ewige Musiker im Hintergrund, der nur heute einmal
ganz vorne steht. Und deshalb vielleicht auch seine Introvertiertheit..
Kurzum, ein nach wie vor genialer Musiker, für den vorderste
Stagepräsenz nach wie vor ein Greuel ist. Und das, wo er auch
noch der Stargast ist heute Abend...... Nobody really knows, what made him to come out and back again into the publik. After severn years of abtinence Mike Oldfield is back again on the surface. There ain't no new album to promote, no upcoming tour. But there he is again, like in the past, highly concentrated and obvisouly not very happy with the sound and his five guitars. Of course it's 'Tubular Bells' starting off with, the masterpiece, which made him famous. Oldfield seems rather shy and introverted, and only now and then a slight smiles finds it's way on to his face. He still can't sing and will never learn it, and fortunately he never tried to. Mike is the musician standing in the background, who stands in front tonight. That's maybe, why he seems a bit stiff. Over all, he is still a brilliant musician, who still is not to keen for a stage appearances. And that's where he is certainly the star of the Nokia Nights. |

Miriam Stockley ist in Südafrika geboren, lebt aber mittlerweile seit einigen Jahren in Florida. Sie ist ausgebildete Opernsängerin, tritt auf den großen Bühnen der Welt auf, verdingt sich aber mitunter auch als Backgroundsängerin für Künstler wie George Michael oder Prince. Sie hat stets versucht die Klassik mit der Moderne zu verknüpfen. Und somit ist sie hier bei den Nokias auch sehr gut aufgehoben. Miriam Stockley was born in South Africa and lives in Florida, USA. She's a trained and skilled opera sophran singer, and her home are the big theater stages around the globe. But she also did often background singing for artists like George Michael and Prince for instance. And she is also one of these artists, who try to combine the classic tunes with the modern ones. |

And last but not least haben wir Chico & The Gypsies. - Die Gypsy Kings rufen. Kein Wunder, denn Chico ist der Gründer jener legendären Latino-Partyband. Nachdem er sich von jenen getrennt hat, oder sie sich von ihm - who know, - hat er gleich wieder eine Formation um sich geschart, die den Gypsy Kings fast schon banal ähnelt. Das hier sind sieben exzellente Gitarristen französischer Latino-Kultur, die sich allerdings dazu hergeben, die abgehalfterten üblichen Gassenhauer einmal mehr runter zu fideln. Eigentlich schade, denn in dieser Stilrichtung gibt es mit Sicherheit noch hochwertigere und vielfältigere Songs, die das Genre bedienen. Trotzdem ist auch ihnen der Applaus eines euphorischen Publikums sicher, dank dem unvermeidlichen Wiedererkennungswert. And last but not least, here we got Chico & The Gypsies, reminding us so much at the Gypsy Kings. No surprise, because Chico was the founder of the legendary latino popband. After he had parted with the Gypsy Kings, he founded himself his next band,simply called the Gypsies, playing almost the same songs. This here are seven excellent guitarrist going for the french latino culture playing the old stuff. And I'm sure, there would be so much more around in latino music which serves the genre. But they get the applause of an enthusiastic audiance, thanks to recognition of the music. And that's okay for them.... |
